GM Pulls Gay-Themed Ads From YouTube

Apparently, the powerful General Motors company has the luxury of limiting the demographic groups to which they must appeal, because after posting several gay-themed Camaro advertisements to YouTube, said advertisements have now been pulled. (It seems that these spots might have also been some sort of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen tie-in, which would probably make sense to me if I'd seen the movie, which I haven't because of repeated warnings that it will turn my brain to paste.)

General Motors has ordered all videos created for their Chevrolet "Gay Day at the Movies" promotion be removed from You Tube. The videos, which featured amateur footage of two "go go boys" washing a Camaro, were deemed inappropriate by GM.

"The video was not appropriate and not in good taste," said GM spokesman Dave Barthmuss. The videos were seen as a bad representation for the company by GM executives said Barthmuss.

Also widely seen as giving General Motors a "bad representation": the cars manufactured by General Motors.

But are there ads showing semi-clad girls lathering up the car? I could easily have missed that, but all the car commercials I see are more wholesome. While, personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of buff studlings in their shorts gettnig sudsy and spongey, I would have to agree that that sort of sexploitaion, whether it's of men or women, is not really appropriate for advertising. (Hmmm.... It does give me an idea for a porn flick, "My Brother the Car" but who would even remember the lame '60's sitcom that references?)

I never once considered buying a GM car because there's no way in life I want a big ole red GM on the front of my car.

Since when did moocho, macho mean hetero? HAHAHA You'd be surprised to know that a whole slew of macho just ain't hetero. Don't forget, you can't always judge a book by its cover.

As for as buying power, for more gay men have huge incomes because they are more creative, talented, and technologically savvy and create their incomes in non 9-5 jobs.

Gay women...I think we earn far better than many of our straight counterparts. I know we have more disposable income. Remember, when you minus out the men and babies, that's an income boost in and of itself.

Toyota ran gay-friendly print ads years ago, guess what, sales went up in those markets.

GM goes to Washington and asks for a hand-out then files chapter 11.

Toyota never went to DC and they are the #1 automaker in the US, I think GM should rethink those ads, I am quite sure they can make gay men look sexy in a 4x4.

I don't know why the Ad was pulled, but shouldn't GM be given credit for Making the commercial in the first place? And why would GM want to make this commercial targeting the Gay community... Because, gays as a demographic are hipper than the rest of us. GM was doing the right thing, until someone got their panties in a twist!

Well most cars are pitched as male macho things and not gay type feminine things historically. They have pulled ads before. It will be interesting to see if their other more macho hetero buyers will tolerate their new marketing moves. I suppose they will after a while. The problem is that macho hetero buyers outnumber all other groups as far as sales for the type of cars they really like to sell. GM will also have to learn to do designer interiors.

Would it have been less questionable if it had been a couple of gay NFL players. Being gay does not mean you are effeminate or dainty. Like everyone else, gays fit into numerous catagories of physique and personality types. If showing two attractive men washing a car is inappropriate, then what about the history of hundreds of commercials with bouncing young women doing the same thing?

But a gay couple that kissed in a taxo place in El Paso got the cops called on them-- the cops told them kissing was "illegal."
