I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Meredith Vieira wishes she could take back this extremely rude comment after "The Soup" catches Vieira insulting one of her guests live on the "Today Show."

Vieira was interviewing Janice Lieberman, described as a consumer expert, on the great deals one can get from buying goods at police auctions. After Lieberman lists the wide range of products available, Vieira lets loose this astonishingly inappropriate comment:

I can see all the NBC bean counters, all of my wardrobe is going to be from PropertyRoom.com, starting with (pointing at her guest) that ugly yellow dress.

Groans of amazement can be heard on the set, and Vieira desperately tries to salvage the situation by saying frantically, "No, it looks cute on you. It looks cute on her!"

Actually Dangerfield was ripping the hat before he saw Ted Knight wearing it making the scene funny. So basically Vieira has less tact than Dangerfield.

Given that this lady is frequently on the show, a little self restraint would have gone a long way.

That was so obviously a joke I'm not sure why it's even news.

I guess she skipped kindergarten and the common courtesy lessons. Beyond belief! Getting a little full of herself?

Yeah, she was introduced as a Journalist this week on Conan. Journalist? Nah, more like what you said.

Just because you can tell the truth does NOT mean people need to hear it. It's called MANNERS, and it's called DECORUM.

Such a pity that the crude, uncouth, behavior of media talking heads is somehow seen as a "desirable trait."

Rather than us "get over it," perhaps the "truthsayers" shoud make an effort to think about someone besides themselves and their Ego's NEED to expound the "truth," and instead, speak of truths that DON'T insult the people they speak to...

You got it, especially if you're going to be speaking on national television. Then you had better have some decorum or be prepared to take the backlash.

Don't you think there are more important things in life, than to take it upon yourself to give lessons in manners...it was a joke! Really you don't need to expound on this...

You don't insult people. "Telling the truth" doesn't justify insulting someone. Not her place, not your place to make that call. Your opinion is just fine where it is inside your head. If we are being constructive in our comments and truly trying to help, then pointing these things out to others has a purpose. Obviously Meredith made an awful mistake and I am sure she apologized. Being rude is not a positive personality trait. You are not a "Champion of the Truth" by being ill mannered and spouting every opinion you have of everyone else because "it needed to be said". I have been a teacher have 15 years, have noticed our society becoming a lot uglier and children suffering as a result, as this was my rant. And this is what I always ask my kids: What if she really liked that dress? How do you think what you said made her feel? ( Man that never works either...)

If only kids could retain the golden rule they learned in kindergarten into adulthood.

You should not stop people from telling the truth...maybe that old Jack Nicholson line "you can't handle the truth" applies, but I was a teacher too. and children are the most HONEST of all people.... they will tell you exactly what they think!!!!!!!

In this case there is no "truth" involved, it is strictly opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...

Bottom line is that Vieira was RUDE. Being rude used to be unacceptable in society, now it's passed off as "truth". Please, give me a break.
