There appears no end in sight for when Dick Cheney, a rare former vice president with Secret Service protection, will lose his security detail. Whispers has learned that the political battler's Secret Service protection has been extended, though there were no details on the length.

I dislike Dick Cheney as much as the next normal thinking person but I understand why his protection would be extended. Although the record shows that left wing extremists (is that an oxymoron?) are far less violent than right wing extremist. I do agree that, maybe for Cheney's own safety, he should be housed in some kind of concret building with 24 hour protection where he sleeps in a concret room locked by a large steel door that noone can get into or out of without some kind of clearence and where he can be monitored very closely - for his own good of course.

If we are paying for his security I would not be opposed to giving him MAXIMUM SECURITY we just need to take care of a few formalities 1st like a quick trip to the Hague.

just for a review of his case of course and to make sure we know why to make sure he can make a case that he needs this protection like what HE DID to warrant it

Hand Cheney a slingshot and tell him he is on his own.

I would like to know if taxpayers are still paying for the team of doctors who travel everywhere with Cheney? He had that luxury for eight years, at taxpayer expense. He is a multi millionaire, but still acts like a welfare recipient, expecting freebies. Most welfare recipients just need help to survive, Cheney does not want to spend his own ill-gotten gains.

What a waste of tax payer money. With all the tax-payer monies he and 'haliburden' have garnered, he can pay for his own fckng security.

Now we know what he meant when he said Obama was making us less safe!

He might as well. He extended their illegal policies as well:

"I think right now, the Bush people are bringing out their mission-accomplished sign, because they've not only gotten Obama to protect Bush and Cheney and others from any criminal investigation on torture, but he's now gone even further than they did in the protection of unlawful surveillance. This is the ultimate victory for the Bush officials. They have Barack Obama adopting the same extremist arguments, and in fact exceeding the extremist arguments made by President Bush...You cannot any longer suggest that President Obama is advancing the civil liberties and the privacy interests that he promised to advance. This is a terrible roll-back. It's a terrible decision."

The ultimate in irony.

Obama extends Secret Service protection for a guy who quite possibly tried to bring down his campaign jet.

Let's see. Cheney goes all over the U.S. defaming the president, in/cit/ing vi.o.lence against him, and be.gg.ing Al-Qu.eda to att.ack us again, then needs more protection?

Let him hire Blackwater? If they were good enough for soldiers and civilian personnel in Iraq...

The problem is the world and now likely most of America see Cheney as one of the most if not the most vile and evil person to walk the face of this earth in past 5 centuries.

He will likely need the extra protection until the day he is put in solitary confinement in a maximum prison somewhere in an undisclosed location in the United States.
