Specter Calls Sestak A "Flagrant Hypocrite"

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter called his fellow Democrat, Rep. Joe Sestak, a "flagrant hypocrite" and accused his rival of registering as a Democrat "just in time to run for Congress."

Sestak has said that he will challenge Specter, who has the backing of President Obama and party leaders, for the Democratic Senate nomination next year. Specter, a longtime Republican, switched his party registration to Democrat this year.

Simply put; Spector actually thought and SAID that if he became a Dem to help them, that they would not allow someone to run against him in a primary. How can anyone stop anyone from being in a primary??

I hope Sestak beats him on principal - many people in Philly are so angry at Arlen for taking care of Arlen instead of what he was elected to do that if Arlen had any any any pride left, he would NOT run and finish out his term as a very senior senator and have some credibility left.

Right now, he will lose and be a child about it which is very sad.

I do not live in Pennsylvania, but I will try to support Joe Sestak in any way I can. I will donate money to his campaign. I really do not want Specter there again. I think he is an opportunist and he will be back to the Republican Party once everything is said and done.

I do not know if making phone calls from another state is a good idea but this is something we can do too.

Many of us can't vote for Sestak since we don't live in PA but we can support him in other ways.

Specter was up front about his reason in becoming a Dem, there was no way he was going to win the GOPer primary.

So, in that sense he is NOT a hypocrite.

A flagrant political opportunist, yes, but not a hypocrite.

What makes him a hypocrite is he is using the same excuse, but worse, he was a life long rebublican who saw wich way the winds are blowing.
Sestak, by contrast, registered as an independent and is now a democrat.
Thats hypocrisy to call someone out on the same thing you are doing but trying to make it look like your circumstances are somehow different, when to me, its worse.
Specter doesn't want to lose power and will do and say anything to keep it.
Its time for him to retire and go fishing.

Specter, the self-proclaimed man of principle and non-hypocrite, remained in the party of W during his entire (p)residency and only became a Democrat 6 months after Obama was elected.

It's instructive to note that, in the last 40 years, Sestak has more time in the Democratic Party than does Specter. (Specter's dalliance with the Democratic Party in the '60s -- when he was in his mid-30s -- was, borrowing from Henry Hide, a "youthful indiscreti­on.")
