Swedish Newspapers Threaten To Boycott Britney Concert Over Photo Restrictions

STOCKHOLM — Four major Swedish newspapers have threatened to boycott a Britney Spears concert in Stockholm because of restrictions imposed on their photographers.

Spears is scheduled to perform in the Swedish capital on July 13.

Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Expressen and Aftonbladet say they won't send photographers to the show unless Spears agrees to scrap certain conditions on how the images can be used.

The contract bars the papers from reselling the pictures and from publishing them more than 30 days after the concert.

Dagens Nyheter photo editor Roger Turesson said Friday "the next step would be to tell critics they can't write anything critical."

Local representatives of Spears' record label Sony BMG did not immediately answer phone calls seeking comment.

This just sounds like more over controlling PR here's an idea for them drop the talentless performer, they are quite happy with the coverage when they want it.

But in truth this not a story its just the time limit on the photos which is the issue as a music photographer I am use to restrictions 2 songs only or 3 and having to sign releases to limit publication its just part of the game.

Anyone tempted to pay $100 to see Britney in concert..just go to Utube and look up Britney at Mohegan sun..OMG..she is horrendous..I wouldn't pay a dime..Then Just for kicks..look up MJ in concert..worth that and more..

Frankly, I agree with the Spears camp. All they're going to try to do is get compromising shots they won't be able to publish in their own papers and repackage the swill off to People or Star and make, like, a gazillion dollars. It's crass, especially since they already have fine, well paying jobs, benefits, education (sigh, I'm jealous)

Oh noooooo, NOT THAT! The press and media have convinced themselves that THEY are the story and center of everyones universe, and many of us have bought into that nonsense! Do the newspapers actually believe that Ms Spears and her shows will wither up and blow away without their photo coverage? Without a lot of media coverage, yes Britney Spears and all the other so-called celebrities would not have fans at all. It's the media--from the DJs who play music to tabloids who cover gossip and many others--who make these "stars." Believe me, Britney's handlers do NOT want the Swedish media to stay away from her show.

Surprise: fans go to concerts to hear music & to see the artists. They don't go to see photographers working. The photographer's antics are a distraction for the audience. Boycott or Boy Scout, banish the disruptive photographers. The musicians, not photographers, are the show.
