Greg Lukianoff: Michigan State University: Serious Student Complaints = Spam
We all hate spam, but censors, especially ones on college campuses, are remarkably good at bundling protected speech with speech that does not enjoy constitutional protection.

Here's a simple fix -- buy JUST A PHONE! Don't they make a cell phone any more that only sends and receives calls? I don't want a picture-taking, MP3-playing, Internet-accessing, lawn-mowing, GPS-locating, porn-watching, dish-washing device -- I want just a phone.
George Carlin is still right -- we really are not given many choices here in this country!
I have an iPhone and it has gotten spammed, this included email and SMS, as well as an occasional telemarketer.
I stopped the SMS spam by going to my AT&T account SMS preferences and "blocked" SMS messages originating from a computer. Someone has to send me an SMS from their phone not a PC. Since then I have not received any SMS spam. I can't give you some guidance on how to change that setting because AT&T's website is horridly designed, you need to poke around and search.
Email spam. Set your email spam filters high and white list important people. Only have a few of your "mission critical" email accounts active on your iPhone, check the others when at home/office or via Safari. We can not stop spam until our elected officials start to really care about us, don't hold your breath. Take the advice of using a throw-away email account for blogging and such.
Telemarketers. These people are in the same category as spammers. Anyway, get on the Do Not Call list and file a complaint with the FCC when you get a call. Appeal to your elected officials to do something about Do Not Call list violators. Once again they don't really care about such things until it happens to them, but the squeaky wheel donates the campaign funds. If an unimportant form requires a telephone number enter a 555 prefix like they do in the movies.
This is a non-story. Straight from 1998. Underscores and numerals in your email address? Okay...
