Sarah Palin

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gun rights enthusiasts welcomed Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as she made an appearance Friday on a radio talk show, whose callers included rock n' roller turned avid hunter Ted Nugent.

Palin spoke on the Michael Dukes' "Firearms Friday" show on KFAR radio in Fairbanks. She was in Alaska's second largest city to sign a gun rights bill and several resolutions.

Nugent, well-known for the 1970s hit "Cat Scratch Fever," told Palin from his home in Michigan that he was firing up the grill to cook up some Alaskan black bear backstrap in her honor.

The governor told Nugent that she thought that was "awesome."

Palin announced last Friday she is resigning, saying it was the best thing for the state and for her family. Her resignation takes effect July 26 when Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell takes over.

Nugent signed off by saying, "Sarah Palin, God bless you and your family."

Since her announcement, Palin has mostly been traveling around Alaska and visiting towns and signing bills.

After talking with Nugent, Palin took some questions from listeners. Most of them said they supported her decision to resign but were disappointed.

"I chose not to play their game," Palin explained.

She wanted instead to free herself of the constraints of the governor's job so that she could again "get out there and fight," she said.

As governor, she was forced to answer ethics complaints filed by anonymous people, Palin said.

"They do things like that," Palin said. "I can handle it but not when it cost the state the time and money it has cost."

The state said this week it has spent $1.9 million on the ethics complaints.

The bill she signed in Fairbanks aimed at helping people with permits to carry concealed weapons to remember to renew their permits. The permits used to have a renewal date based on the day the permit was issued. The law changes the renewal date to the permit holder's birthday.

In Alaska, residents are allowed to carry weapons either openly or concealed without a permit. However, if they want to carry their guns in other states that have concealed carry laws they may need a permit recognized by that state.

Hello?!! Isn't it easier to fight when you have real power, like the governor of a state?

Does anything this woman ever says make sense?

Nugent brags about the 13 yr old he's had. Palin is a hypocrite. But then again what do you expect from someone who sells her children to Candies, a company that markets a preteen thong?

As long as they're not letting Nuge & Say-rah lead a girl-scout hike up the 'old Appalachian Trail', we shouldn't have too much to worry about..right..? ;) ...

I swear to god I can't think of two people that I would want to see LESS in the same room as Ted Freakin' Nugent and Sarah Barracuda. The mind boggles.

I don't want to sound like a hater, but I am really getting tired of hearing about Sarah Palin, and this particular story is so unnecessary. Palin is one of the most inept political personalities that have emerged in recent times. Admittedly, I do not understand her appeal. Supporters of Palin might argue, at this point, that the reason I do not understand her appeal is because somehow I represent the mindset of the liberal elite, wholly incapable to comprehending real-world America. If this is their argument, then so be it. I am a strong supporter of women in politics and I for one would very much like to see a female president in my lifetime. Indeed, I believe that in the near future this will be a reality. However, I cannot help but vomit a bit in my mouth when I imagine a President Sarah Palin. I use to pick on George W. Bush's lack of speaking skills. Palin makes Bush look like freaking Cicero whenever she opens her mouth. I wish more qualified, more articulate, and more rational and equally appealing female political leaders would rise up and take Palin's place.

We can only hope!

The current liberal fascination with Sarah Palin is centered in the disbelief of her enduring popularity with conservatives, in light of recent developments.

Their support of her during this obvious collapse of her political career is a clear sign of their desperation.

As the Brits would say: "Hear! hear! Demarcus." Enough of HP's unintended promotion of Sarah Palin. As long as the media continues to cover this woman, every time she sneezes, the public will continue to think that she is a worthwhile and legitimate political leader. In my humble judgment, any leader, Democrat or Republican, who quits her/his elective office before his/her term expires, simply because her critics are mean to her, is a coward who deserves absolutely no attention or legitimacy. If Sarah Palin can't stand the heat in Alaska she certainly will not be able to stand the heat in Washington, D.C. if she is elected president. This being capitalist America, I have no qualms if Sarah Palin joins the idiotic right wing talkers on t.v. and radio in making millions of dollars. But for God's sake, she is not fit to be president of the U.S.

Thank you. When one of us gets weary of commenting about the lunacy of 'Palinism,' it's reassuring that someone like you will be there to allow us to take a break now and then.

Bill Ayers is a respected professor who was appointed by Reagan's Ambassador to Britain to sit on the Chicago's Annenberg Challenge. He was never convicted of anything.

Ted Nugent is a ped chickenhawk who finally forced to pay child support by court.

Most Dems where I live have had to be forced by the court to pay child support. Thought you liked that sort of thing.

O.J. wasn't convicted of murder either. What a profound comment you make that someone wasn't "convicted." You tell 'em.

Very simple: Ted Nugent, who, if i am not mistaken, is another "chicken hawk," is worse. At least Bill Ayers tried to stop an illegal and immoral war that killed millions of people. Exactly what has Ted Nugent done that is worthwhile so far as human beings are concerned?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:02 AM on 07/12/2009

Bombing the Pentagon and police stations sure brought that war to an end. Which war was it that killed MILLIONS of people? What's with the Ayers fan club? I'm sure he is a great guy, after all he wasn't "convicted" of anything.

2nd Ammendment rights for all! Guns, Mom and apple pie. It's still the American way whether you like it or not. All of the wacky libs that are scared of guns never held nor fired them. It's because they are wimps, scared of the little bang! You're the kind that got bullied over and over in grade school and never fought back or punched the bully to let him know that their actions wouldn't be tolerated. I would say guns are here to stay, but you crazed loons on the left do have a knack for modifying the constitution and our rights or at least legislating from the bench for political gain. You won't get my guns as long as Sarah and Ted are around!
