Pregnant Belly

TIME:

There is so much you can't know about your spouse when you get married, like that one day she will want to eat her placenta. But there are two things you don't argue about with a pregnant woman: what she eats and that being full of life indeed looks sexy. So when Cassandra told me that for $275, a woman would come to our house, cook Cassandra's placenta, freeze-dry it and turn it into capsules to help ward off postpartum depression and increase milk supply, I said, "$275 is a bargain compared with the $20,000 I'll have to spend to tear out our kitchen immediately afterward."

Yes, it's natural. Cats do it. Doesn't mean humans need to.

I agree. My dog licks.... uh.... a lot of things, and it seems completely natural when he does it.

On the other hand, brushing your teeth seems completely unnatural, but I will keep brushing.

Natural or disgusting?

Why not both - natural (if you are a cat) AND disgusting (if you are a human)?

Anyone who has seen a cat give birth knows that in between kittens, the mother eats the placenta. It is a natural part of the process designed to help the mother's milk output. That said, this seems a little artificial.

They do it so preditors don't smell the afterbirth and come eat the kittens.

The placenta nutrients are broken down to powder and put in pill form. I guess since it doesn't come from a pharmaceutical company then it must be bad. Come on people, it doesn't matter where the source comes from. If anyone saw what they put in hot dogs or went to a meat packing plant you wouldn't eat meat, but you know and you do. At least the woman knows what is in the pill.

No, we don't all want to be part of animal flesh eating.

Can I have a list of these "nutrients"?

I've heard about this and spared myself of the disgusting video. This is too nasty for normal people to consider. What's next? Eating other bodily organs and secretions?

I've read here at HP about people burying the placenta.

I don't care what people do with their placenta. If they want to eat it, fine. It seems weird to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Wow, this couldn't be anymore disgusting. My fault for watching the video. I am now sick to my stomach.

Thanks but no thanks.I'll pass on the placenta. Like the guy in article said, it's natural for dogs do eat their own poop, doesn't mean we should do the same.

Dogs think cat poop is a yummy snack.

Maybe freeze dried and in capsules I could swallow them down with a big glass of 1% organic milk. I remember a family in South Florida who after the birth of each one of their children brought the placenta home with them from the hospital. They didn't gather around and eat it, but rather dug a hole in their backyard, placed the placenta in the hole and planted a palm tree with it. I'm sure that could sound strange to some people; it did to me. They lived in a different neighborhood than ours.

It's natural. We're animals, folks - do a nutritional analysis on it, and ask yourself if you'd leave something like that around with lions about.

You live near lions?

Sounds perfectly natural to me--if you happen to be a Panda or something like that.....
