I am reading with great apprehension the evolving news about our State's budget.
I cannot believe that Sacramento is starting to talk about suspending prop 98, for the second time in 2 years.

Education, the cornerstone of our democracy, is once again made the scapegoat.

A bill is currently being discussed in the Senate which would lower the majority requirement necessary to raise a parcel tax, benefiting school districts. The bill is called SCA 6.
This bill is not a tax increase, rather, it would restore the democratic process, giving communities the opportunity to make local choices, benefiting local schools without going through Sacramento.

Please consider signing an on line petition in support of this bill

Now we'll get the people who say you're not taxed enough. You are, you are one of the highest taxed states in the nation. They say it's Prop 13. Ok, let the Democratic legislature put it on the ballot and the voters can repeal it with a simple majority. But it won't pass, because you don't want to, it's just an excuse.

Do you think the following is fair-- because that is what is happening in higher education in California:

My workload has been increased by 20% for the same pay. Now by being asked to take furloughs, which will amount to a 17% pay cut, my labor will be worth 37% less. Is that fair? The rich need to start paying their fair share of taxes.

Faulty reasoning. There are many ways to. Skin a cat. We could tax big oil--wait, the Governator nixed that one.

Excellent idea! Let's make cuts, cuts, cuts! Take away the jobs from people who are paying taxes, making purchases, paying property taxes! That is such a great idea! That would definitely solve our budget problems!

Also, state workers are the ones that caused this whole situation. They were the ones selling bad mortgages and claiming they were AAA rated. They were the ones that transferred billions of dollars of tax payers money into private hands. They are the ones who award themselves millions of dollars of bonuses for destroying America. Horrible state workers!

It seems HuffPo has decided to change the links to the comments from the original article to a newer article, so I want to move my comment over to this thread:

There is a angle that I have trouble with.

The US government bailed out the banks but the banks are hesitant to lend the US government help?

Okay....

That is exactly what is happening - the banks, steeped in their riches from the taxpayers of this country and rolling around in their multimillion dollar bonus packages, also made possible by the taxpayers, are now giving the finger to those same American taxpayers.

Bothersome. Even more bothersome is why a large percentage of those taxpayers continue doing business with the "too big to fail" banks.

It is time for the governor, the republicans and the democrats to reach a compromise. No more lines in the sand. Everything is on the table. Immediately.
