The UAW should look at the way Building Trade Unions write thier contracts. The contractors pay into
a health and welfare fund that is dollar amount per hour. It leaves construction companies free to do what they do, instead of managing healthcare, pension, and training. The union handles all of those things. This is good, because when grievances arise, it is not the union vs. the contractor.
Trade unions are never found at the office or shop, of a contractor. It makes for a much better relationship. If a contractor has to lay off, the employee doesn't lose any benefits. So no hard feelings when the company starts rehiring.
The UAW and the Airlines both have a system that if you work for GM, or American Airlines, you can't change jobs without losing status and benefits.
I only know what I read about the UAW, and Airlines. But, I know of the Trades first hand.
So If someone knows UAW contracts, please say if this is wrong, or not. And if a wage only contract would work.
who's rationing things now? Wall Street?
Yeah.
I want them making decisions about health care because what is most profitable is always the most healthy.
I am so tired of this debate. Republicans and their ilk have nothing to offer, not even a reasoned argument.
haha... your argument is absurd. And yet you disparage the Ret`hug's arguments...
Wall Street isn't rationing anything... The government bailed them out... Wall Street donated more $ to Obama and the Democrats in the last few years than any political party before.
So you'd rather have a government bureaucrat deciding what's healthy for you?
HA!
I dealt with Medicare for years in caring for my grandparents. NO ONE IN THAT GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY EVER DENIED ANYTHING FOR EITHER ONE OF THEM!!!!! But my insurance provider makes me (and my doctors, who DO know what is "healthy" for me) jump through hoops all time in order to fill prescriptions or run tests or obtain approval for procedures.
So you'd rather have a government bureaucrat deciding what's healthy for you?
Dam right, I don't trust private insurance anymore, I recognized this 25 years ago. Remember the term "going postal" from the Reagan era when the GOP had the great idea of privatizing the Post Office.
America take note: The Republicans are lying to you about Pres. Obama's healthcare plan because they are working to protect the insurance industry and lobbyists -- no other reason. They don't care about you, they don't want you to have health insurance, they only want to keep the insurance lobbyists happy and to keep the money flowing in from the industry.
Ask yourself why would you ever vote for anyone in the Republican Party? A vote for a Republican is a vote for the corporations and a vote against yourself and your children/grandchildren. You voted against yourself when you voted twice for George Bush; you couldn't see that at first, but now you can, so don't make the same mistake again.
Pres. Obama's public option will operate just like Medicare; anybody choosing that option will be able to choose their own doctors, just like your parents and grandparents choose their own doctors under Medicare today. If you don't wish to choose the public option, you will be able to choose one of the private insurance plans or keep the one you currently have.
Get all the facts about the plan and then make your decision based on common sense, not lies. The Republicans managed to kill healthcare under the Clinton administration; they think they can go it again, but they're wrong. This time we get it done for all Americans. Don't be a part of the "just say no" gang of Republicans. This time choose YOU instead of them.
Who do those repub's think they are fooling. they turn my stomach. that blonde and kristol should be sent to iran.
wow Juan, where did you find them, your boys have been in hiding for so long, that I am surprised you actually spoke a bit to truthiness
If you get laid off today and have health issue in three days your are toasted. If you have a child older than eighteen and have a serious health issue he and you are toated. Of course, for repudicans you always have the option of the emergency room and free doctors samples to treat you.
I am a emergency doctor, so I don't deal much with insurance but I am shocked that I have not heard "who the heck is between you and your doctor now, and insurance bureaucrat". All I here from Family Practice docs is the spend all day with insurance bureacrats.
Ditto. I don't get it either. It seems like a no brainer. When ever a con starts talking about rationed health care, why don't they get slapped upside the head with the fact that we already have rationed health care - rationed by the HMOs and the patients ability to buy adaquate coverage.
No one stands between the doctor and his/her patient in countries with socialized medicine.
those people are paid well to make sure no government plan ever gets passed. it's all about the money. and until the people make the government tear down the FOR SALE sign in washngton , we the people who put these guys in office , will die and go bankrupt while the health industry continues their only goal, which is to make more profits
These people are pigs
I am going to say this, I really hate fox news. They are such liars, and they do it with no consequences. There should be a price paid for giving wrong information. There was a time when the worst thing for a news organiztion was the loss of credibility, fox gets away with murder and thye just keep chugging along.
So do I!! When will MSNBC do something meaningful on the weekend other than those stupid "Lockup" shows??
Go to Newsvine and talk this up!!

"At least the insurance companies have to compete... government doesn't have to compete with anyone... that's why the government system would be like a monopoly."..................wow, where does one start? this logic is so contorted, i think my dog coould have come up with something better to say. well, one could start with economies of scale, with the idea that the government isn't replacing ins companies, the idea that the gov is indeed competing, and on and on. there's dumb, and then there's republican.
What I cannot figure out is why someone has to make a profit (i.e., insuance companies)--and does so by inserting themselves in between doctor and patient--having had a deleterious effect on both--and which has only increased over the last four decades.
We Americans need to be liberated too, we are prisoners of our health care system, and our govt won't help, but why the heck did they spent trillions liberating others, and not want to spent a penny on our own???? I just don't get it...
As a former health care giver, I am shocked and saddened to see what has become of health care in America. $ 1. 4 million is being spent per day in DC by the health care lobbyists so your elected representative is getting taken care of and has quality health care we pay for and can't afford ourselves for our families, I know what is deemed, defended and supported in Tennessee and Virginia as quality health care and clearly profit care comes ahead of patient care. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 MRSA ( methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureas ) is infesting our communities because filthy, uncaring hospitals and emergency rooms are breeding them and spreading them into our schools, homes, restaurants. How many more Americans' will be diseased or die while 74 % of Americans' are begging for health care reform ? More people died in America last year from MRSA complications than AIDS. When MRSA and a flu bug start mixing, it won't be pretty and we are being infected by the very health care system we depend on and trust to keep us safe and healthy.
Juan Williams is an intellectual lightweight.
He toed the administration's line, but couldn't handle the associated logic.
Kristol and Ingraham seem troubled by the prospect of what actually goes on *today* for the majority of folks with HMO insurance. The legendary bureaucrat with bean-counter genes, arbitrarily rationing care for the sake of profits.
Do they believe the majority of Americans paying affordable healthcare premiums are in charge of their own care?
If a true representative person for the millions of uninsured in America was sitting between Kriston and Ingraham, she would school them. Juan lacked eloquence and was talked-over by not one but three different people (heresy is not to be condoned at Faux News).
Imagine a future where Murdoch decides to go for less expensive health-plans for Fox & Co: Option A: ->HMO; Option B-> Govmnt-HMO; Option C->Self-Pay...and them having to sit at the waiting room alongside one of today's uninsureds....that surely terrifies these talking heads.
How long will liberals allow cons to get away with saying that a public option will end up rationing care when we KNOW FOR A FACT that is the HMOs who are RATIONING CARE. It is they who stand between the doctor and the patient and everyone knows it. If the HMO says you don't get that MRI, you don't get that MRI.
In Canada, with is horrible government run health care, NO ONE stand between the doctor and his/her patient! If the doctor say the patient needs an MRI, the patient GETS and MRI, end of story.
Ask any Canadian, they are VERY satisfied with their government run health care.
Er....marco....the current proposal before Congress is not the Canada model. It's not the European model either. It's not a single-provider model. It's for a government-sponsored HMO-style plan to augment the status quo and cover a good portion of the uninsured.
Maybe I have to look into this further. Of course I know that it is no where near Canada's plan. But I was under the impression the public option would not place a middle man between the patient and the doctor like the HMO model does.
In any case, the argument oft used by cons concerning rationing health care is so disingenuous and easily countered. I don't understand how libs let them get away with this nonsense.
