Time for the LDS church to relocate--to another planet.

For all you indignant supporters of the Mormon church's 'rights'.... sorry, but the LDS church and administration has infringed on the private LIVES and rights of the LGBT community once too often.

They are, in fact, REAPING what they have sown!

You have no idea how some of their own are treated either. The LGBT is not the only group abused, you might even say they abuse their own women in a legal way. Unfortunately you can not embarrass that state when you are doing something to fan your own flame. They "are right", they stick together and they are basically brainwashed people. AND they would rather that the rest of us did not do more than drive through.

"The Government of the United States is NOT, in ANY sense, founded on the Christian Religion". -- John Adams

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes."
-Thomas Jefferson, Dec. 6, 1813.

"Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law."-Thomas Jefferson, February 10, 1814

"In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own." -TJ Mar 17, 1814

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."-TJ 30 July, 1816

Actually Thomas Jefferson cut the passages out of the bible he didn't like.

It's called the Jefferson Bible and can be viewed at his home at Monticello or here:

http://www.geocities.com/jeffersonbible1/jefferson_bible.jpg.

However I must disagree with you.

Jefferson's personal view of religion did not intrude on his absolute belief in religious freedom.

I'd have to disagree.

They ACT more like Christians in their treatment of others, especially their neighbors, than do members of most Christian denominations.

They're gradually getting rid of the nonsense penned by Joseph Smith in favor of the Gospels.

In, say, 200 years, I predict Mormonism will be as mainstream "Christian" as Baptists or Presbyterians.

When they lose the golden underwear I may even consider joining them.

I love the idea of this protest, but I wish that it had more people. This demonstrates a relative lack of organization in the LGBT community. As a Gay man, I think the turnout is disappointing. But, I think that the LGBT community should work with this idea and bring out more people.

Agreed, but have you BEEN to SLC? To have a demonstration at all, directly confronting the LDS church on its own turf with such a quick response is, I think, commendable. But more is always better, just ask the Iranians.

The ongoing discrimination against other people in any form must be addressed at every point and as quickly and peacefully as possible. I salute the people of SLC that had the courage to show up and express their affection for others in a very short time.

Private property is one of the pillars of our society.

"Salt Lake Police Lt. Lamar Ewell said he and another officer responding to the call asked those involved to move off of church property and explained that the plaza and walkway through the plaza were private property. Ewell said demonstrators complied with directives from police and no citations were issued."

How would you feel if a member of your local government urged citizens to come onto your private property and engage in behavior you find offensive?

I imagine you'd feel pretty put out.

I am not easily offended and I do not discriminate against others based on factors of which are none of my business.

I am open minded. If that ludicrous example come true, I guess I would re-evaluate my behavior to see if there might be a case that I am WRONG.

Grateful Amaechi to lead gay pride parade in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY -- John Amaechi still has fond memories of Salt Lake City despite his struggles on the basketball court.
The first former NBA player to acknowledge he is gay said his affection for the community balanced out his scant playing time and clashes with his coach. In memoirs published in February, he called Salt Lake City "the hippest, gayest place east of San Francisco."

Nothing wrong with GLBT folks sticking up for themselves, but isn't this a bit over the top?

It almost seems analogous to a group from the Cattlemen's Association holding a BBQ in front of a Hindu temple.

Had I been up in Salt Lake I would have been there. With weddings and such going on at Temple Square PDA for them isn't banned, but it seems to be for gay couples. When Main street was sold to the church everyone who isn't a member of the church could see the hand writing on the wall. It was sold on the condition of public access. That went to the way side. And here we are many years later seeing how the church is two faced.
