CNN:

Sen. John McCain thinks we haven't heard the last about allegations that former Vice President Dick Cheney ordered secrecy for a CIA surveillance operation after the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

C.I.A.?......How about the criminal prosecution trials of the Bush Administration starting with 'W' and Cheney and onward from there. Should fill a large size federal prison by the time it's over.

It took 15 years to bring Adolph EIchmann to justice. Give this some time.

We do not have 15 years. We have only 4.

O has to step lightly. Who knows what they have said to him, whose lives are at stake.

Well said.

We have his back. A huge public outcry will give him cover. This demand to investigate is not coming from him, it is coming from the people he is supposed to represent.

is McCain slowing throwing the former admin. under the bus? What does he mean expect a more detailed story to come out? Hmmmmm seems like some republicans are gonna start jumping ship like the rats they are

As this progresses I think that is exactly what will happen. The republicans - facing near certain oblivion, will wrap themselves in the flag and the constitution and demand that Cheney be brought to justice for his crimes against humanity (and for behaving in a most unrepublican manner - getting caught). Rush might even excommunicate him.

Its going to be a lovely sight.

The way they'll get out of it is to claim that they, too, were not told the truth about what was being done and so weren't culpable. And they're resentful for being left out of the loop, now that they know there was one.

Republicans throw Cheney under the bus?

Fair enough. He never cared a rat's *** about the party. He only used the party as a vehicle to steal everything possible for his cabal.

THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! (R)s will defend bush/cheney til they die. They all think that what Bush and Dick (what a pair!) did was all for "the cause" of "keeping us safe". No offense, but you are dreaming.

McCain would've had some pre-election briefings, I think, on the assumption that the Diebold vote-fraud machines would give him a win.

I'd like to see an investigation on McCain's supression of investigating MIA-POWs after he was released. Google McCain, MIA, cover-up. It's one reason I'd never have voted for him.

Nightmare, imagine that McCain and Palin were in office?

All of the corruption of the financial industry and Wall Street is still in place, all of the domestic spying operations unrevealed and functioning, Iran nuked, Noko nuked, McCain taking a nap and Cheney as Secretary of State? ARRRGGHH.

said Cornyn. "To trot out the Vice President and say he's the one who's at fault, this unfortunately sounds like a new theme where they still want to blame the Bush-Cheney administration for the economy and other things..."

So McCain, do you regret how hard you campaigned for Bush & Cheney? On July 15, 2004 McCain was talking about Cheney and called him "one of the most capable, experienced, intelligent and steady vice presidents this country has ever had." http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-07-28-mccain_x.htm

Funny how mac thought his intelligence (and clearing of same) was enough to garner the presidency, but now he's just out of the know based on recent reports.

WIsh I could laugh.

Harry Truman December 1963

For some time I have been disturbed by the way CIA has been diverted from its original assignment. It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the Government. This has led to trouble and may have compounded our difficulties in several explosive areas. I never had any thought that when I set up the CIA that it would be injected into peacetime cloak and dagger operations. Some of the complications and embarrassment I think we have experienced are in part attributable to the fact that this quiet intelligence arm of the President has been so removed from its intended role that it is being interpreted as a symbol of sinister and mysterious foreign intrigue

He knows little about but he says this is the beginning of a long and detailed story.

He knows a lot more about what's going on than he is letting on.

I suspect this is a generalized data mining project. They intercepted all traffic over the internet and telephones and used super computers to look for useful information. This is a lot of information, and the leads would be too many, but they probably also were figuring out how to backtrack once they had a decent lead and reconstruct all of the emails and calls anyone made. You can't limit such a program to foreigners - there is no way to initially determine who it is you are intercepting.

Such a program would be immensely useful to intelligence and law enforcement personnel, and it is inconceivable that it is allowable under the 4th amendment.

The issue that needs to be resolved, once and forever, is whether the Vice President (or the President if he is competent) has the authority to suspend the constitution in situations like 9/11 (which perhaps gets to the question of whether we can consider the "war on terrorism" to be a war).

Which is, of course, consistent with McCain's courageous, unswerving criticism of the baseless invasion and occupation of Iraq (and his schizophrenic, contradictory positions on abuse of detainees).

It couldn't have been done without the shrubs signature on the executive order?
