(AP) WASHINGTON - U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Christopher Hill was among a group of American personnel who were uninjured when an explosive device detonated near their convoy in southern Iraq.

State Department spokeswoman Joanne Moore said the bomb exploded as the convoy was traveling Sunday through Dhi Qar province.

No one in the convoy was hurt, Moore said. She added that an investigation into the incident is under way.

Iraqis will continue to hate the US for the over 100,000 civilian deaths we have caused by conquering and occupying their country for many generations. How do you forgive the country that caused so many deaths? How do you forgive a country for wounding, terrorizing, torturing and raping your family and friends?

Look at how we felt with 3000 civilians dead at the trade centers - imagine over 100,000 American dead on our shores?

We need to apologize and pull everyone, troops and contractors, out of there, stat. Give them as much financial aid as we can and stay out of their government and stay away from their oil.

Then maybe they can recover even if they cannot forgive the US.

You don't forgive that. Nobody forgives that. We invaded and occupied a country that never attacked or threatened us. But they will be a threat in the future. Bush and Cheney guaranteed that.

lazercat - The PEOPLE of Iraq certainly want us to leave. If we don't leave, Obama might be wise to read a book abouut the British empire in Iraq.

Afganistan also.

I have plenty of issues with Obama's first six months, but I have no problem whatsoever in the President's understanding of the issues he is dealing with. This is probably the most intelligent and best read President we have ever had. Knowledge is not the problem with Obama.

There are very few more unfair things than people like Westmoreland, McNamara and their ilk languishing in their death beds at a ripe old age when they were responsible for the unjustified premature deaths of millions. War is hell, true... but I'd like to see some poetic justice manifest itself if we cannot see true justice brought to these monsters. Yes, war is hell, but its fires should consume some of its protagonists in a fairer way.

Im just wondering, was there ever a legal official declaration of war to begin with? Because I thought according to the laws that govern our country, that congress and the president had to make a declaration of war for any real war to exist. and that isnt over ruled just because everyone calls it war is it? So would also mean that many of the war actions taken, are "police" actions and not war actions? Think about it, in a country that claims to be ruled by laws, shouldnt such an important law like declaration of war be important enough to mean something? Or since it was fudge through by Bush so he could invade Iraq is it now ok just to totally blow off that law and just keep looking forward?

We can't declare a war with a nation that didn't attack us - it's a war crime under Geneva.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 [1], Pub.L. 107-243, 116 Stat. 1498, enacted October 16, 2002, H.J.Res. 114) is a joint resolution passed by the United States Congress in October 2002 as Public Law No: 107-243, authorizing the Iraq War.

The Act authorized the use of military force if certain conditions were met (the conditions were not met, as we now know).

It did not declare a state of war.

We use the term "War" very loosely, to raise up the blood of fools: War on Poverty, War on Drugs, War on Christmas.

As an aside, how aptly the military action was named: Operation Iraqi Liberation. OIL.

"We're making good progress in Iraq but media bias filters out the good news, paints a falsely bleak picture, emboldens our enemy, and kills our troops."

Pretty much, but I would add that is also encourages the bad guys to keep up their campaign of terror against the Iraqi people. In other words, every time the morning news glosses over an explosion in downtown Baghdad, it gives the "resistance" hope that it can prevail.

"Occupation" - con talking point. Grabbed -- hook, line and sinker.

But, if it makes you feel better, it makes you feel better -- all smug and safe here in the US of A.

There was an organic reason why Saddam Hussein existed to begin with.

"We're Still At War: Roadside Bomb Targets U.S. Ambassador To Iraq"

Ummm, NO, we're still NOT at war and never have been since 2003. What the headline should say is "We're Still In Occupation: ". An occupation is NOT a war.

I could get shot just as easily at a 7/11 here in America by a gangbangers as I could by a freedom fighter in Iraq. What's the difference? Getting shot at doesn't mean it's a war, does it?

And if it is a war, why hasn't it been declared by Congress to be a war? Last time I checked, there was no declaration of war, nor has there been any kind of peace treaties signed. And there will never be any peace treaties signed with Iraq. Why? Because it wasn't a war. ;o) Course, there's never been any treaty signed between the 2 Korea's, yet both the World Cup and Olympics were held there during this so-called "state of war", with nobody getting hurt did they?

Attacks like this pale in comarision to the horrific acts of mass murder the "resistance" inflicts upon ordinary Iraqi civilians. I guess that's the idea though: convince the Iraqi people that things were better under Saddam by blowing up markets, mosques, and public gatherings.

I wonder. That idea actually works to sustain the planning, recruiting, arming and carrying out of the plot to place the device? Seems pretty tenuous to me. Maybe there's a power group that's utterly out of favor in Iraq, able to recruit anyone with no current prospects, just to keep things stirred up. More likely, there's a shiftload of Saudi money paying anybody who can find a patsy to blow something up, just to make everybody look bad. Not war, just PR assaults on the occupation & company.
