Cheney was in the Nixon White House, so was Donald Rumsfeld. Same gang, same results. Only this time Republicans are covering for them. Under Nixon, the GOP had the sense to save their party.

As long as you inform Congress, it's not a problem, hence the controversy.

Federal law requires that Congresional intelligence comittees be informed.

Why did Richard Cheney deliberately violate federal law???

You are assuming that this was only about al Qaeda. That's a mighty big assumption.

Bush had broad authorization to take the war on terror anywhere in the world. Yet the Vice President was running a secret assassination program with handpicked members. That's going around the military, the Congress, the CIA. I like Joe Biden, but I really don't think the VP should have this much power. I'm pretty sure that every single country in the world is going to want to know a lot more about this, because they are not anywhere near as naive as we are. They aren't going to take Cheney's word for it that it was only al Qaeda. These assassins could have gone after anybody anywhere for any reason.

The CIA tried to kill the enemy during war. Oh the humanity of it all................................

The leaks about this program make it seem like something that might have been dreamed up in 1970 by a couple of kids sitting around in a tree house.

Given what is known about past methods and the technologies available today the stories they are weaving for this case are not believable.

Democrats have to be the dumbest people in the world. They just got power back and they're already trying to give it away. Unbelievably the lunatic left believe Americans will be upset with Bush for trying to ki// OBL while protecting innocent lives. In the words of the one they hate more than OBL, "bring it on".

The Central Intelligence Agency withheld information about a secret counterterrorism program from Congress for eight years on direct orders from former Vice President Dick Cheney, the agency’s director, Leon E. Panetta, has told the Senate and House intelligence committees, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Saturday.

The basic issue here is why would Richard Bruce Cheney deliberately commit a crime and with hold information from Congress as is required under Federal Law.

Why do Republicans support breaking federal laws, and why do they support criminals?

well, well, if it isn't misty again with more incorrect info for the troops! first of all, there was no crime committed by Cheney or anyone else here - the CIA does not have to brief congress on any plan unless it is moved to 'operational' status

Republicans support breaking federal laws because it's fun and gets up dimocraps' noses

Republicans support criminals for the same reason

ps - you really should try to look to credible sources for your blather - of, course, then it wouldn't be blather - go to Fox News for fair and balanced reporting if you don't wish to keep this blog a fact-free zone

Sunday 60 Minutes..a CIA operative said they had "BIN LADEN" in their sights...and two good plans to get him....just before they were to initiate the plans..they were scrubbed..someone VERY high up cancelled it...(Bush/Cheney?) and a "third" initiative was given the "go ahead"..it was the worst plan and doomed to fail before it began....now we have this "plan" that was also "never initiated"...and the big question is WHY were Bush and or Cheney constantly taking their eye off the ball??

The wars were never about terrorism. They were about getting access to oil and natural gas and transportation of it from land-locked areas to the ports. If they'd caught Bin Laden earlier, it would have been far too early in the game. It would have made it difficult to maintain the anger at the Muslim world that they initiated through their nine-eleven events and hoped to continue in order to invade Iraq.

Hit squads to go after Al Qaeda operatives is a good idea. If the CIA can get Bin Ladin and his officers without having to risk US soldiers that's great! So, why did Obama cancel this program?

Republicans make repeated false statements to cover their serial criminal activities.

Deliberately not informing Congress under federal law... Is another crime.

Why do Republicans think it is okay for them to break the law, and why do Republicans support criminals?

Ya'll do know that this isn't the whole truth, don't you?

they're releasing the truth in drips and drabs - in order to soften the blow...

The truth?

cheney's team of hit men was formed to target whomever cheney decided was 'the enemy'

and it was fully operational.
