Am I the only one who hears Ozzy Osborne's Crazy Train in their head whenever she appears?

WHY is B.achmann WASTING valuable time & money introducing a "Bill" that is flagrantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL?

The Constitution includes the phrase..

"{An} Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

Case CLOSED.

Yes.

I really don't know where these nuts that scream that the constitution provides for a headcount and nothing more are getting their information...courts have consistently sides against that notion.

It is a way to look (to the unwashed and incoherent) like she is doing something of great importance, while not doing what she was elected to do and is incapable of doing, balance the budget.

From the web page on census, details how census info required has changed, Bachman might want to review it herself. C/r/a/z/y/s/a/u/c/e for b/r/a/i/ns won't, but back in 1940's and 50's, if she thought the current census taking was intrusive, she'd be really f/r/e/a/k/e/d out as to what was required.

1940
Address; home owned or rented; value or monthly rental; whether on a farm; name; relationship to household head; sex; race; age; marital status; school attendance; educational attainment; birthplace; citizenship of foreign born; location of residence 5 years ago and whether on a farm; employment status; if at work, whether in private or nonemergency government work, or in public emergency work (WPA, CCC, NYA, etc.); if in private work, hours worked in week; if seeking work or on public emergency work, duration of unemployment; occupation, industry, and class of worker; weeks worked last year, income last year.

1950
Address; whether house is on farm; name;
relationship to household head; race; sex; age; marital status; birthplace if foreign born, whether naturalized; employment status; hours worked in week; occupation, industry, and class of worker

1960-1970
Address; name; relationship to household head; sex; race; age; marital status.

1980-1990
Address; name; household relationship; sex; race; age; marital status; Spanish/Hispanic origin or descent.

2000

I'm very comfortable with Minn. being under-represented. I not see the value added.

Shallow intellect, produces shallow responses.

America is the quintessential train wreck when it comes to politics, "little to no substance of an issue or what platform it represents".

REALITY vs. Conflation....truly epitomizes the platform.

You can compare the lack of knowledge to "An American Comedy or Tragedy". You decide.

Keep up the good work, Bachman! I don't want you lurking near anything more significant than what you have adopted and proposed. We have more qualified (?????) lawmakers for the big stuff. BTW, How's that Civics class going?

I'm a little surprised at all the bashing on this one. Do you all want MORE government intrusion into your personal lives and personal information? Didn't we have enough of that during the previous administration? I have never agreed with census data reporting other than population count. Collecting ethnicity and other personal information is unnecessary and intrusive. Are you really all so partisan? Would you have reacted the same if a dem had said the same thing during Bush/Cheney? I intend to offer only the information that is legally mandated and nothing more. Bachman may be a loon, I know nothing about her except she's a R-MN, but this article does not persuade me that she's a loon. Some of the comments however convince me that some HP bloggers are partisan hypocrites.

The bigger issue is that what she is proposing is against the law. Even her fellow Rethug's have sited her for refusing the fill out the census. It's not that she is not going to answer a few questions, she has stated she will NOT fill it out at all.

are you saying it is of no use to our government to know the ethnicity of our citizens? that's ridiculous. it is indeed a very important ccomponent of the census.

Vernondelray is on solid ground on this one, and it is Michele Bachmann as messenger that causes mental spasms; on thr left and right for that matter. The census is literally a US Constitution law.

"[An] Enumeration shall be made within three years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by Law direct."

Today, the controlling law for the U.S. Census is Title 13 of the U.S. Code. There is a lot of census data collected in the United States today, such as economic figures, sales and production figures, and agricultural statistics. Still, the head count is the only part of the census that is called for by the Constitution.

http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_cens.html

Additional information beyond counting heads has the value of allocation of government resources, anticipating / determining infrastructure needs from year-to-year growth patterns, and determining elected representative criteria based on population growth or decline in federal and state elections. These among other uses. It's the other uses that Bachmann may claim to take issue with. Of course, such claims require an element of honest consistency on matters of government intervention in our lives to be credible, and in that context, be removed from religious considerations. Bachmann is inconsistent, but her argument is not completely specious.

You might want to investigate what is "legally mandated". If you're believing the loons that cluck that it's only a headcount, you might want to read up on court rulings on the subject.
