All the Republicans should start jumpng on the Bachmann bandwagon here, since it says in the Bible that God does not allow a cesnus at all.
I live in MN, but thankfully not in Bachman's district. Though it is relatively close to my home town. You can almost smell the stench of creationism, social intolerance, ignorance and bi.gotry rising off the electorate over there. Those who elected her should be ashamed, but they actually like her. The nuttier the better.
Michele Bachman is irrational. However, this proposed legislation is not the census mandated by our Constitution -- it's the annual American Community Survey conducted by the Census Bureau. Fine and jail time are promised if you do not comply.
Asking the relationship of each person in the household, “A housemate or roommate” shares the household “but who is not romantically involved with Person 1.” Is romantic interest any of the census’ business?
What time household members leave for work/where they work is asked. If one doesn’t report to the same location everyday, list the location where the person worked most of the time the previous week. Is your address listed as the employment address of the handyman who repaired your porch last week?
Financially the questionnaire wants the amounts of mortgage/rent, utilities/fuels, real estate taxes, city/county/state/school district taxes, personal property taxes/registration/license fees. It wants income amounts – not based on income last year's IRS return, but from the last 12 mos., e.g. August – July .
There are a myriad of health questions. Here's one. “Answer this question if the person is a female who is at least 15 years old and younger than 51 years old. Mark the ’Yes’ box if the person has given birth to at least one child born alive in the last 12 months, even if the child died or no longer lives with the mother. Do not consider miscarriages, or stillborn children…”
Very intrusive questions, the government has no right to demand this kind of information from citizens.
The information the Census Bureau retrieves from the ten year Census is of enormous use to many government, academic and private researchers, businesses, government of every level, professional and amateur genealogists as well as civic and social organizations No agency can plan or provide adequately for the needs of its people without the acquisition of information. So far, the Census' record keeping has been generally very good. I would love to have access to the complete 1940 and 1950 Censuses because as an amateur genealogist the information from the 1930 Census only answered some of the many question I had as to my family. Those Censuses 1940 and 1950 will not be released for a very long while.
Finally, the Census is only as good as the truthfulness of the people answering the questions...many people have lied and in doing so lost government money and business interest. Rep. Bachmann's constituents can do the same.

Everyone who is shocked by Bachman and that people would have elected her, you obviously have not ever been to the Repub stronghold of MN's 6th District. The Twin Cities outer west metro especially. Shes not an exception, she is a standard.

That photo posted with the short news bit is not terribly flattering of the Representative of Minnesota's 6th District. It does seem to capture her fairly though. She is one very zany person, and not in a good or healthy way.
