The US consitution calls for counting the people every 10 years in order to allocate house seats.
The consitution does not entitle the government to count toilets, college degrees, number of TV sets or anything else.
In this rare instance, I agree with the woman. Count the people - that's it.
If you don't think the government or Dick Cheney can get any data they want about us at any time, you are living in a dream world. If you have a credit card, they already have the data about you. Wake up. This information helps your state to get resources, if you don't want them, my state will be happy to have them.
If they already have the information then why do they need this ACS?
fine...and how would you go about long term planning for allocating resources like health care, schools, relief programs, veterans services..

OK counting is fine so how many women? or men ? does it matter? maybe if you are looking at a military draft for example. How many are over the age of 50? might be important if you are looking at hospitals and medical care. How many are between 5 and 18 might be useful for determining how many schools might be needed. Sure in 1776 it didn't matter much as to make-up of the country things were far simpler. Sure if you want you can go live in the 18th century fine, but quite frankly I live in the 21st century, If you do not care to have data to ensure public services are adequate by all means say here we won't ask you anything more but do not expect the schools hospitals or any other service to meet your needs then, oh and no complaining about it either.
....and therein lies your first problem in agreeing with her. You actually think she's made a point. The census does more than just determine whether or not you need more representation and it's necessary to re draw the lines. It determines the services that the gov't supplies to your area. If there's a growing number seniors and a shrinking number of children, think it would make more sense to add a new hospital or a new school? Think that if there are more people living in a house even if the amount of houses being built slows that perhaps you might need more police? If the incomes of everyone in an area goes up, do you think they need more or less public services? Guess what determines all of that? As far as I'm concerned, I hope she doesn't fill out that info. I hope that her district gets under represented. I hope that they swallow up her district based on her stupidity and she loses her seat administratively from her own devices.
Understanding the responsibilities of being a citizen of the US and the purpose of the census (it is only every 10 years by the way) is apparently beyond her abilities. She is an embarrassment to our country, not just Minnesota.
o.k. I'm going to get crushed on this one! I normally read Bachman stories to get a good laugh, I find her amusing and I find it Unbelievable that she is an Elected official. However, in this case I agree with her. No I don't wear a tin foil hat, I consider myself an intelligent, educated and thinking person. My business is nobody elses. Just for laughs I googled my name the other day (do it if you have not done so). I WAS SHOCKED! I gave no one permission to furnish the information about me that is available on some of those sites the internet. In her own way it seems Bachman is supporting privacy!
I'd be curious about how much of that information you voluntarily provided without reading the fine print to social networking sites, email lists, and so on. People give up their privacy all the time on the internet. Why not let the government have it? At least they're using it to provide services and not sell your marketing data to corporations.
Oh pleaase you had to have posted that information somewhere on the internet yourself for it to appear in google. Or you did not adequatly read the discloser information to some web page. I goolged myself guess what NADA nothing. Nice try though. If you have to claim you are intelligent to make your arguement then your arguement is flimsy at best. Also since when did the internet have anythign to do with the census? You are comparing apples and oranges. Do you knwo what they use the census for? How about ensuring that there are sufficient teachers in a given area to meet the anticipated number of school kids? If I count heads without age information how will that work? That is just one of hundreds of applications of data from the census, which under Bachman woudl maek it uselss, also I mnight add that government funding that states get is determined by certain groups and numbers so if you are willing to give up that funding my state will take it.
She is confusing 'census' with 'senses'..
