Obama's Teleprompter Crashes During Speech (VIDEO)

President Obama has often been poked fun at for his reliance on teleprompters when giving addresses. Well, you can add this episode to the list. While giving remarks on the economy, one of the teleprompters came crashing down in front of him.

"Oh, goodness. Sorry about that, guys," Obama said.

What's with this teleprompter nonsense. Before this innovation it was speeches written on paper, sometimes noted on index cards but seldom was the value of the words spoken based upon the ability to memorize the speech. The whole issue is bogus.

It's all about content and delivery, and despite the protests they are his words his thoughts his issues. I believe there is a young 27 year old who does the leg work when it comes to the flow etc.

Of course he kept going after the teleprompter crashed to the floor. There are always *two* teleprompters. He just started reading off the other one.

The whole controversy is ridiculous. It's what Obama *says* that's important, not the fact that he uses teleprompters. Everyone on TV uses them.

Obama is great at speaking and not making it obvious that he's reading it. Whereas Leno and Conan, etc. are clearly reading their monologues. But so what? It doesn't matter.

Using a teleprompter allows Obama to keep his head up during speeches which allows him to deliver his thoughts in a way that is not only clear but also articulate.

I love how nobody took note that he was able to continue his speech without stumbling or losing the point of his message. The news can't find anything better to attack him about so they choose ridiculous, meaningless episodes.

I agree. That was my first reaction. The Teleprompter crashed, and our President just kept on talking as if nothing happened.

It could also be Pres. Obama demonstrating that he is not dependent upon the teleprompter like his enemies would like to believe he [is]. We must never forget that Pres. Obama isn't likely to lay down and accept the negative rhetoric that comes his way from the right, the fact that he would eagerly go on Fox News, in spite of the daily nonsense that they shoot his way, tells me that he is constantly figuring out how to defeat them.

This epidsode as you call it, could be a brainchild of Axelrod, they don't seem to be letting any stone go unturned in pushing back and this is a good thing.

If you watch when the teleprompter falls ad listen to the crash it is obvious that this could NOT have been accidental. Who was in the room at the time? Did anyone leave the room before it happened? How do you explain a spike in the price of glass at Home Depot the very same day?? When will the American people be told the TRUTH about this?

I think Obama should start reading from the sheet of paper and improvise, just like many presidents did in the past. He is becoming known as a "teleprompter president". That is not good for his stature and reputation. It seems that he is reading every line of every speech from the screen word for word. That was one of the reasons his speech did not resonate in Russia, for example. Russian newspapers noted that he read every single word from the 2 screens. This is not a very good image to project in other countries where many leaders - like Sarkozy, for example - speak off the cuff most of the time, and rarely read from the teleprompter.

By the way the speech Sarah gave at the convention which everyone said was great, was written by Dubya's speechwriter and delivered via a teleprompter.

Dubya used a teleprompter and that's the ONLY time he was coherent even though his reading skills were sorely lacking.
