Rush Limbaugh took the Bronze in Keith Olbermann's "Worst Persons in the World" segment for his statement that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor's 'wise latina' comment was worse than former GOP Senator George Allen's 'macaca' remark.

Jim Thompson, the founder of the conservative website Free Republic, received the Silver for allowing racist, and moderated, comments about President Obama's daughter to linger on the website for three days.

Finally, Pastor Wiley Drake of the Buena Park Southern Baptist Church scored the Gold for his admission that he does in fact pray for the death of President Obama.

Praying for someone's death is at the low side of offenses the (so-called) Christian Right has committed in the last 30 years...if they have their way,"we" will look just like Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

As this presidency proceeds on its mostly coherent path, all the worst right-wing sl.ud/ge -- elected, "religious" and talking heads -- is rising to the surface and fermenting.

Like, "In case you didn't all notice before, we're truly a su;bspe cies, and we just want to be sure we haven't left any lingering doubts."

It doesn't shock me that there are people like Wiley out there...because hate knows no bounds, but
what shocks me is that he was made a head of a church....and that he actually has church members coming to hear him speak.
But the biggest shock of all is the silence from all the well known pastors out there. Why is there not a universal (and loud) condemnation from them about this man? Why is not one of them standing up today and saying what he is doing is so WRONG?
To allow such a hateful man to head up a church is beyond comprehension.
Kind of ironic that Disneyland is in Buena Park. The happiest place in the world side by side with one of the saddest places in the world.

You know your right, WonderfulLife, when Jerimiah Wright, spoke there was an outcry. This man actually said, he prays that the president dies.

You are correct and I wonder where all the racists who were so rampant about Jeremiah Wright are in this case. I'm sure they'll do the right thing! Ha.

Many times, silence is the deadliest reaction.

But the biggest shock of all is the silence from his fellow pastors, especially those in the Baptist faith. Why is there not a universal (and loud) condemnation from them about this man? Why is not one of his peers standing up today and saying what he is doing is so WRONG?
To allow such a disturbed man to head up a church is beyond comprehension.

This is the essence of religion right there. People worship God for the reward. We will bribe God by praying so that he will give us heaven. Religion is the most extreme human expression of narcissism. All religious people believe in God for one reason only; to bribe him with prayer and perceived good deeds, so that god will in turn reward them with eternity.

Atheists do good for goodness sake because they logically understand that good is just better than bad, while religious people use their religion as a selfish investment with the expectation of a greater reward. Religion is the ultimate expression of human selfishness and narcissism wrapped in ignorance. Man was not created in the image of God, rather god was created in the image of man's ego.

Even a Wiccan has more ethics than this so-called Christian. They know the evil you wish on others comes back to you three times over.

So true, Ariadne. I wonder if he knows he's actually practicing black magic, instead of Christianity?

I know this sounds selfish and a little shallow, but I am just so glad that despite the name of his "church" he's not actually in the South. It's one less thing I have to be worried about, what with all the other loonies here. See the article on that treasonous soldier - filed suit where? Georgia. Arg.

I honestly don't understand these Christians. Jesus exhorted his followers to love your enemies, treat them as you would want to be treated, yet these nutcases do just the opposite. They point to passages in the Old Testament, such as when King David prayed for the destruction of his enemies. But, hello, Jesus was speaking out against these practices, he was trying to show how love conquers hate, how hate eats you up, and how hate leads to constant war. And now Jesus most vocal followers are hate mongers, I will say again, I just don't understand how they can get away with it.

Good post. However, they're not Christians--they're Neo-Pharisees. The good Pastor is gonna have a lotta 'splainin' to do to Saint Peter.
