Washington Post:

There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America's unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won't bring jobs. Our nation's debt is unsustainable, and the federal government's reach into the private sector is unprecedented.

Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:

No... she needs to be continually countered and discredited. People wrote off Reagan as a joke and he got in and acted as figurehead while Bush & co deregulated communications, travel, and banking... and look at the mess we're in thanks to that.

As long as there are butterbrains like the Palinistas posting on this thread who count themselves as her stormtroopers,, we have to keep refuting her nonsense.

Energy is supposed to be her big issue. She tried to play with it against Biden, but backed off. I'm guessing this is going to be her platform in 2012. You know who else's big domestic platform was broad-stroke energy policy? W.

That being said this has got to have been ghostwritten if not essentially rewritten for her in edits.

Am I supposed to believe that a person who cannot string a few words together to make an intelligible sentence can write a cogent paragraph? Absurd. Totally, totally, absurd.

Very good, since she couldn't even tell us what she reads!! Reading and Writing . . . they often go together.

Give Sarah the benefit of the doubt.... let's assume she wrote it... Great.

Now let's see her defend her position on, "Meet the Press" or some other political roundtable...

THAT would be some fun to watch....

After everyone declared how foolish she made herself look, she would complain about the unfair media, .....again.

I'd like to see her have a chat with Chris Matthews on HARDBALL since that is what she seems inclined to play (hahaha).

This is the launch of her 2012 presidential campaign. It's a publicity stunt created by a staff of campaign advisers I'm sure she hired right before quitting as Governor. They picked an Obama topic for her to attack, told her what to think and gave her a couple reports to read in case the media asked, and then launched this statement for her. She doesn't know anything about cap-trade. The way that she came out with this statement shows that she is already being pushed and guided by the GOP. She's the perfect presidential candidate for the GOP. She’s the controllable female counterpart of George W. Bush. I'm sure there will be "intelligent" Republican candidates to vote for in 2012. Don't make the same mistake twice GOP.

Absolutely correct! Except W wasn't a mistake for the GOP -- he paid off brilliantly. So will SP. The rest of us will lose... the have less and have nones.

A natural gas pipeline from Alaska would be a boondoggle. There is a 1000 yr supply of methane in the Gulf of Mexico.

If any of the fruitcakes on this blog could read, they could find out that the similar cap and trade act in Spain has resulted in 18.4% unemployment since enacted, there has been no reduction in carbon footprint other than that attributed to slower economy as a result of the cap and trade and consumer prices have risen between 35 and 40% - sounds like a he// of a deal - you tell 'em, Sarah, you seem to be the only one with any smarts around

You aren't going to find a link that credibly ties an emissions tax to a collapsed economy. You'll find plenty that might explain a collapsed economy with the collapsed global economy, though.

I have read some analysis of Spain's situation (as opposed to the shouting and drivil that mostly comes up) and those figures are exaggerated. Lots of other things are going on there. Cap & Trade will cost. No doubt. No solution is perfect. But if you think there's a GHG emmissions problem looming (granted, you may not), then all solutions come at a cost. Market based solutions happen to work best. Is the US program perfect? Hell no! But we need to start somewhere.

If it's raining and you have a flat tire, do you automatically assume the rain made your tire go flat? There is no logic connecting those two events.

Logic is just yer fancy word play that has no relevance to real reality in the real world that we live in and play ball in, world.

Ha! If she even read it at all (much less wrote it), she probably thinks the "chattering class" [sic] is the "people up here in Alaska who don't have Arctic Cat coats." What a joke--and by that I mean the "editorial" and the Post itself.

I agree she likely did not write the piece. My own preference is to focus on the argument, or attempt at and argument, and alternative policy that the Palin peice contained -- whoever might have written it. Because many will jump on its sound bites as a reason to oppose cap & trade, or any mechanism that attempts to reduce carbon energy consumption. Palin is too easy a target.

Palin, and any other dissenters, should expect to be trivialized by the followers of Environmental Ministers Gore and Obama. The Ministers preach pollution abstinence and promote Draconian policies under the following mantra: We believe global warming will kill us all and must be stopped at all costs. Well excuse me for expecting a GW model that actually explains the past, much less predicts the future, before I convert to the new Christianity. The believers will keep dragging their GW crosses-and crucifying any non believers along the way- regardless of verifiable science. What if the GW alarmists are wrong? We'll have a much lower standard of living and return to a Carter-style stagflation that most have never lived through. What if GW alarmists are correct? Scientists will eventually validate with climate models that are not pure crap. As for now, Sunspots is the leading candidate for causing climate change. Good luck controlling them.
Fact: The Global Climate is cooler today than it was 11 years ago. It was supposed to be 1 degree higher.

"...drill for U.S. oil in a tiny, 2,000-acre corner of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge..." Tiny is not what I'd use to describe 2,000 acres, and anyway, why wasn't this done in the past 8 years of the Bush Administration?
