"It steals cellphones, whispers threats and occasionally flings stones."

These sound like things a real person can do.

I suspect if one examined the courts of most countries one would probably find at least one attempt to file suit against invisible entities for an alleged wrong. The fact that weird might be widespread however doesn't mean it should be encouraged.

What I find amazing with so many posters here is that if you ask most of them, they would say it is arrogant to think we are alone in the universe....but when asked about God and other creations that maybe we cannot see....then it becomes a joke.

Lets resepct other religions, cultures and not fall into the typical rescumlican mindset of my way is better/right because its my way.

I chatted with a cab driver from the region once and we somehow got on the whole subject of jinns. He explained a bit about how it works, that the jinn can take on forms of people you know, like family members, to fool you. They mostly just cause mischief. It was pretty interesting. Sounded a bit like what we call a poltergeist in the west. All these stories and legends are the same across the globe and pretty much just different versions of the same thing.

You don't see the difference between thinking there could be life on other planets and believing in a magic genie?

There is no Shariah standard to permit a legal action against jinn/ genies. if you recall, there is 1400 years of Shariah precedent and there is literally no such thing as 'suing jinn'.

Belief in jinn is part of Islam, definitely. For all those who are curious, jinn are sentient beings with freewill who preceded humans. They differ from humans in several ways but they do not take physical power over humans. But the most famous jinn is Iblis, also known as Satan, shaytan. So as you can see, belief in the jinn is an elemental part of Islam.

They cannot be seen nor heard openly, they cannot be sensed, so there cannot be a legal action against that that cannot be sensed. Law in Islam pertains to actions and jinn do not 'take action'.

What should be noted is that the LA Times found cause to report this. Considering the countless frivolous and absurd lawsuits and legal actions in American courts, LAT chose to portray Muslims and Saudis as outrageous and odd. More biased, bigoted media. Any report on the number of legal cases in Shariah practiced for 1400 years of this kind?
Hypocricy and bigotry in print, and judging from the responses here, American media has taught Pavlovian responses in people.

That's really funny, especially since the family is serious! Sounds like a poltergeist though.

I can understand how these people feel.I have often thought about suing Babara Eden for the embarrassing condition she caused me one afternoon in front of my sisters and my mom.

"I Dream Of Jeannie" indeed.
