Moyers Wapo

In a lengthy piece at TRUTHOUT, Bill Moyers and Michael Winship have weighed in on the Washington Post lobbyist salons. As you might expect, they give good scathe:

"Spirited? Yes. Confrontational? No." The invitation promises this private, intimate and off-the-record dinner is an extension "of The Washington Post brand of journalistic inquiry into the issues, a unique opportunity for stakeholders to hear and be heard."

Let that sink in. In this case, the "stakeholders" in health care reform do not include the rabble - the folks across the country who actually need quality health care but can't afford it. If any of them showed up at the kitchen door on the night of this little soiree, the bouncer would drop kick them beyond the Beltway.

No, before you can cross the threshold to reach "the select few who will actually get it done," you must first cross the palm of some outstretched hand. The Washington Post dinner was canceled after a copy of the invite was leaked to the web site Politico.com, by a health care lobbyist, of all people. The paper said it was a misunderstanding - the document was a draft that had been mailed out prematurely by its marketing department. There's noblesse oblige for you - blame it on the hired help.

In any case, it was enough to give us a glimpse into how things really work in Washington - a clear insight into why there is such a great disconnect between democracy and government today, between Washington and the rest of the country.

There's more, here. Additionally, you can watch Bill Moyers' video journal on the matter, in which he calls the paper's plan "an unholy alliance":

Bill Moyers for Media Czar!

Seriously. At least we know there's one person in the media willing to speak the unvarnished truth to the man on the street. I'll bet he could help clarify a lot of very murky areas, in terms of what is actual news vs. what is being manufactured and shoved down our gullets.

May he live to be 150, God bless him.

Just wondering ... Does Bill's piece come from MSM for-p(R)ofit media, or publicly funded media? And wondering what the implication of that (R), as it were ...?

Snerd

Well people it can't be any clearer than that! Bill Moyers an honest spokesperson who has been around the block and knows his stuff. Washington has been for sale my entire adulthood and I'm paying attention also.

WaPo is a joke. So is NYT. Then again, so is Fox News. But these guys are propagandists at the end of the day.

Washington Post-Free Press. Apparently not.

Instead of a nonsense op-ed by Palin on a subject which she has no credibility whatsoever, someone needs to write one on the WaPo's Publisher's lack of ethics and integrity.

The paper that brought down Richard Nixon now sells itself out to paying lobbyists and other stakeholders in our health care commodity market. What is the commodity being traded for profit?

Your life and health. What is the basis for success at your health care company? Is it how many treated and healed? No. It is how many are denied and how much money pocketed. If the US has the best health care system in the world, God help us all.

Thank you, Bill Moyers. I wish we had more of you out there speaking truth to power/$$.

Great piece, Bill! You are an authentic voice for truth and justice. I admire and respect you. (And I'd love to see MSNBC give him an hour every night -- say 1th 10 PM slot -- if he'd take it.)

We need more voices like Bill Moyers' in this country.

Bill Moyers is getting older. Where are the young reporters with impeccable integrity such as Moyer's? I fear for the future of journalism and a free press.

I take it then these are the types of parties David Brooks hangs out at when he said he had a GOP senator was touching his leg all night.

Excellent piece on how our government has sold out - thank you Mr. Moyers. Exactly, what will it take to get it back and who will be the leader for that first step. The health care issue will answer which direction we are going in.

That my friend is the $20,000 question or perhaps make that the 200 trillion dollar question. What to do, how to proceed, which direction to take.

Moyers is my hero. He tells it like it is. His show on PBS -BM Journal, is well worth the time invested to watch.

Anyone who has a real interest in this should read "The Wrecking Crew" by Thomas Frank. Warning though, it's kind of depressing.

I saw this last Friday; ANGER was clearly present in Moyers' delivery, and rightly so--he has seen a lot of incrediible political & economic debauchery, yet it is clear he has never seen anything on the scale of what we are experiencing now.

He is probably one of the last [if not the last] journalist of his generation to maintain integrity.

A brief glance back through history shows that the entropy must reach a state where 50% of nation’s citizens must be beyond the poverty mark. Whether we wait it out and use peaceful measures or a vi@lent over throw, we ain't there yet. The aristocr@cy has been learning as well and they have a much more sophisticated and technologically advanced network in place this time.

They understand the str3ss and breaking points of a nation’s citizenry much better now. They have had teachers like H1tler, Gobelle, St@lin, Len0n, M@o, C@stro, IL, B@sh 1 & 2, Cl1nton, etc. They are carefully massaging us to become a One W0rld ChinA. They will work this so that the masses sign up for whatever s0up line they set up. 0besity will become a thing of the past unless you are in the top 5%.
