I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Stephen Colbert is sad: He misses the wall-to-wall coverage of Michael Jackson's death. In honor of its passing he celebrated his own MJ coverage, looking back at his one-hour interview with Michael Tackson, his MJ imitation, and his fancy-glove-wearing tribute. It was weird.

Funny vid, but presumptuous in that there will be much Michael Jackson coverage to come, especially once the official autopsy report is released. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F166o1QO6Y8

Colbert, as someone who loved the MJ coverage.... I am able to laugh at myself. You were spot on.

When Anna Nicole Smith died she went from being an object of media ridicule to "America's Rose" or our supposed equivalent of Princess Di. Same thing with Michael Jackson.

There is a good measure of both media hypocrisy and barf factor as well.

Name a bigger star than Michael Jackson.
It's not easy.

Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Madonna, Elton John.

To be honest, if it weren't for his untimely death, his stardom had faded into the background of 80's and 90s pop culture. The 02 concerts might have served to bring him back into the limelight, but now we will never know.

Thank goodness for Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart for their satire, and Craig Ferguson for his silliness.

Hilarious. As always, Colbert pricks the pompous balloon of tacky media coverage in such cases.
