Summer Nelson, 28-Year-Old Babysitter, Arrested For Sex With 14-Year-Old Boy (VIDEO)

A 28-year-old woman, Summer Nelson, has been arrested for having sex with a 14-year-old boy who she was babysitting. Nelson claimed to be in love with the teen, and told his siblings that she was "in love" with their brother. She even went so far as to ask the boy's mother for her blessing so they could be "together as a couple."

According to KXLY.com, Sergeant Dave Beck, a detective with the Post Falls Police Department, said,

She'd be holding his hand, she'd have her hands on his side, when they'd sit together she'd have her hand on his knee, they'd sneak away together and she'd put her sole attention on the oldest child, this boy.

The people who are giving the boy a thumbs up should be ashamed - really. This is legally statutory rape. Regardless of the finite differences between male and female victims of abuse, she broke the law and took advantage of a minor. To make light of this shows a level of ignorance and insensitivity that's unsettling. People are not saying that boys this age don't have desires or should not be active; the most common circumstance (and the healthiest) is usually with someone of their own age where there's emotional and intellectual parity.

No one's saying that it isn't illegal. We're discussing whether it should be legal... he can understand sex, then he should be allowed to have it. The reason other men are saying, essentially, "SCORE," is that most of us lost our virginity in our teens(15, myself), and we didn't think we were being raped, so it's foolish to say that this woman was 'raping' him if he consented.

I know that no one's saying it isn't illegal but the fact that they are overlooking the gravity of of this type of victimization and making light of it is unsettling. Statutory rape is rape. Consensual or not. Two 14 or 15 year olds losing their virginity together is not equivalent to a 28 year old with a 14 year old. The primary issue defining statutory rape is the fact that there is no intellectual or emotional parity between an adult and a teenager. That's where the victimization comes in. It's not foolish. Bottom line - if she's 28 and he's 14, he was raped. There is no difference between 'rape' and rape.

Re 'what if this had been a 28 man and a 14 yr. old girl'--there are some thoughtful comments on here about that, but one aspect that I don't see given much consideration: a 14 yr. old girl could get pregnant.

That puts her in a much different situation from a 14 yr old boy, as--right or wrong--there are cultural expectations/etc. that impinge differently on girls / boys, and would catch up to a pregnant 14 yr. old girl.

Whether or not the event from 'great' or traumatizing for the boy, he'd not be necessarily subject to public judgement--it might be something only he ever knew about, whereas the girl's family, friends, and community would weigh in.

...and so on. (I'm sure someone else can take this line of thinking where it needs to go, yes?)

Which is a fine reason that we should overhaul how men's responsibilities be assigned for childbirth. If men don't want it, and the woman has it anyway, then he shouldn't have to pay for it. I guarantee you that 14 year old doesn't want a kid.

I was a 14 year old boy once. This would have been something out of my dreams.

For all the moralists, the truth is that kids do possess a sexuality before they turn 18 or 21 or get married or whatever other magical moment you suspect they acquire "appropriate" feelings.

I'm not saying this woman did the right thing - she did not, as the boy is too young to consent. But I will say that the boy probably wasn't feeling "abused" by the commonly known meaning of that word.

Legal aspects set aside, I think it's situation.

I didn't hit puberty until 15. One of my friends said he hit it at the age of ten.

At 14 I probably wasn't ready. At 14 he probably was.

Our physiology was formed during the pre-historic era. The body for most males hits puberty by age 15 for a reason. Nature anticipates the adult male to survive for only another 15 years.

My Grandmother, born in 1897, was married at the age of 15 and gave birth at the age of 16 to my oldest uncle, who died only last year. She was happily married to the same man and had 6 children, the last being my father in 1929.

I think we are colored by the circumstances of our current way of life.

I find all the preachy, self righteous posts hilarious. I was seduced by a friends mother when I was 14. It wasn't rape (I was definitely willing), it was sex like a 14 year old boy dreams of and it didn't mess me up. or put me on the self pity train, it exposed me to the simple joys of physical pleasure. A few months later a neighbor lady started taking me into her bed when I finished mowing her lawn. She taught me to appreciate a woman's body and how to please it. The next year it was a teacher. Out of all this I learned to respect women, enjoy them and please them and when I became involved with girls my own age I was much more considerate, respectful and attentive than the other guys my age. My circumstantial evidence suggest that males that have sex early in life, and adjust to it, later on are highly attractive to Women later on for a variety of reasons. These are the people who beautiful women constantly throw themselves at - and don't know why. One reason is that they were introduced to sex early and thus aren't hung up on having it - which has the effect of attracting women to them.

So yes, I envy him.
