Summer Nelson, 28-Year-Old Babysitter, Arrested For Sex With 14-Year-Old Boy (VIDEO)

A 28-year-old woman, Summer Nelson, has been arrested for having sex with a 14-year-old boy who she was babysitting. Nelson claimed to be in love with the teen, and told his siblings that she was "in love" with their brother. She even went so far as to ask the boy's mother for her blessing so they could be "together as a couple."

According to KXLY.com, Sergeant Dave Beck, a detective with the Post Falls Police Department, said,

She'd be holding his hand, she'd have her hands on his side, when they'd sit together she'd have her hand on his knee, they'd sneak away together and she'd put her sole attention on the oldest child, this boy.

Despite the hysterical paranoia and control-freakiness of modern American society, I shall offer this: Will and Ariel Durant. Will Durant was a 28 year old teacher, Ida May Kaufman a 14 year old student. They fell in love, married, and were happily together and productive until their deaths in 1981. Each situation is different; each person is unique; blanket assumptions of "abuse" and "power" are misleading and wrong. To judge automatically is evil.

Fantastic point. The Durant's are my heroes. They are buried together in a cemetary in westwood California, the same cemetary which contains Marilyn Monroe's remains. I would visit their grave often (Minnie Ripperton is buried there too), and ignore Marilyn's.

Crimes against normal consensual behavior are sadistic and anti-democratic. Teenagers are not children. Their contracts should not be subject to legislation. If he wasn't forced or coerced, it shouldn't be a crime. You can't legislate biology. No matter what state, religious, and psychiatric propagandists say, it is normal and healthy for teens to have sex. We should encourage safe and healthy expression of sexuality, not outlaw and repress it like some horrible disease.
You can't protect teens from their own desires, but you can mentally and socially wreck them by making them feel ashamed, and give them horrible anxieties about exposure or prosecution. Pick any gay person you know from a conservative home and ask what his or her psychological state was like for the first quarter-century of life and how long it took to get over the mountain of hang-ups about sex and relationships. Then settle in for an ugly story.

I agree that teens will have sex and it is normal. What is not normal is having sex with someone who is twice their age and in a position of authority over them. This was a person charged with caring for him. The power balance in this situation is not even and it is not fair.

Sex between a minor and an authority figure is absolutely wrong and damaging. Adults have to know the difference. Teens will be teens but when you grow up, and especially when you take on a role where you have authority over a teen, you are expected to get a handle on your hormones. This is not a healthy expression of sexuality. It is messed up.

As a youth summer camp director from the age of 21 to 24, I regularly had some very cute 15-year-old boys thinking that the best game in the world was to hit on me. Their behavior was fine and normal. That doesn't mean that I reciprocated to the flirting or allowed anything inappropriate to happen. That would not be healthy and normal. They may not be "children," but teens of 13-17 are not anywhere close to being adults. It would absolutely be criminal for me, in a position of power over one of those teens, to begin a romantic and sexual relationship. If any of my staff members had entered into such a relationship with a camper, I would have wanted to see them prosecuted.

I agree with what you wrote completely. You were precise and realize the responsible of one with authority over young people and absolutely what not to do. Their minds are on a very different level of development than their bodies and very serious damage can be done to them if certain activity is not stricktly avoided.

Totally spot-on. Harsh, repressive, puritanical "morality" must rank as one of the most horrendous and brutal aberrations of the human species. I was robbed of my sexuality when I was only 13. She was a 14 year old tomboy who hung
around with the guys. She destroyed my hope of ever having a model type as a partner.

She has robbed from him one of the greatest experiences a man can have. Falling in love with a young innocent girl his own age, and the two of them learning the incredible joys of discovering each other's bodies in a sweet and tender way.
