Superman

Last week photos came out showing Superman and Batman getting arrested in Times Square.

Today we have the video posted on YouTube by Weston20000 who wrote,

"There we were minding our business when all of the sudden SuperMan came running through the crowd, followed by a huge police entourage. When they caught him, they beat him down! And what was to come next was even more bizarre, BatMan was thrown into the mix. What is the world coming to when SuperMan and BatMan are being beaten down? I mean, this is really outrageous! "

Guess Superman should have stayed on New Krypton.

And where was The Justice League?

I used to be a psychiatric orderly and we could restrain an out of control patient with four of us 20x more smoothly and safely for all parties than what these bozo cops have just demonstrated. The NYPD and it's "hero" cops are perfect incarnations of the systemic failure of New York to keep it's laws in sync with the mores and values of it's citizens.

I think she's the one who Superman punched in the face (which is why they were arresting him).

Citizen Journalism at its worst.

We have no idea what they were being arrested for. Just the video clip.

HP readers whine endlessly about MSM and the AP. In most cases their stories give you the who, what, where, and why. Who was wearing a Batman costume. Why was he arrested. You get the idea.

I'd make a snarky comment about the world being no longer safe even for superhero's but for all I know these two jokers just robbed a bank.

The NY Post article makes it clear that they were stopped to see if they had a license to "perform in costume in public"
http://bit.ly/ejILV

The arrest happened when "Superman" flipped out and punched a cop in the face.

It seems like the arrest happened for a legitimate crime (assaulting a police officer), but the initial confrontation is rather bizarre. How do you define "performing in costume in public?"

Does that mean I can't walk through town in a Halloween costume?
Or does it only become illegal if I do a little dance?
For how long would I be allowed, legally, to stand in one place wearing a costume?
For that matter, what is the legal definition of a costume? I'd love to see that one tested in court.

He was asking for money. Then, rather than present ID (or refuse to do so), he punched a female police officer in the face.
