I've been trying "Toms of Maine" for the past couple weeks and it seems to work quite well.
+1 to Toms for also using 100% renewable wind energy for their manufacturing facilities.
If ya shower everyday and scrub them pits and your crotch real good ya won't smell. Is that so difficult to understand?
You can also find very effective organic deodorants derived from 100% Natural ingredients at lovlis.com , Manufacturers of natural & organic cosmetics, very effective Deodorants derived from 100% Natural ingredients,
Natural & Organic creams and shampoos,
private label manufacturing and contract manufacturing
don't block exit of toxins and perspiration and yet provide perfect protection from the odor
Well in a world where people don't do any physical labor and eat perfectly, that might work.
But in the real world it is healthy to sweat and many people(even those that take showers daily) still have pungent body odor emanating from them after the slightest bit of movement. So that's not true. But you probably know this.
I have no idea what works best for the male body chemistry, but I have personally used the crystal deodorant for years and it works! The previous post about applying it while damp or wet is correct! And you MUST re-apply every single day! (Which I would hope you would anyway!) Even while doing yard work in hot temps, working out, etc. it has always been affective!
I've used both brands. The crystal pictured in #1 and the "Thi Crystal" pictured as #5, and to me both products worked about the same. The solid "rock" variety works better than the sprays in my opinion!
Ok which is the absolute best for a MAN? I'm reading some of these comments and i'm skeptical about some of these organic deodorants.
I dont feel like buying 30 different (expensive) organic deodorants to find out which is good.
WonderWomanGoddess have you tried Thai Crystal? is it effective?
You can email me at cowboysfan1087@yahoo.com if you like.
Thanks
I use Jason: Aloe. It works great. But for some reason the other fragrances don't work quite as well for me.
Take it from a vegetarian - you still need anti-perspirant, no matter what you eat!
I'm veg, and MUST use deodorant. My hubby is not, and can get by with little or none!
Sorry, that's baloney. Everybody is different; your diet isn't going to change the way you smell. I have very little BO and never need deodorant and neither does my mother. We shower at least once a day and that's all we need. We are both omnivores.
I would have to agree with that - for myself anyway - after I became a vegetarian I did not have underarm odor anymore.
The ABSOLUTELY BEST all natural deodorant is L'Occitane verbena deodorant. I have used it for years. I used to find that many deodorants "turned" after a few hours and smelled bad - not my own odor, but the deodorant actually smelled nasty. This leaves no residual funny smell - it's pleasant going on and it becomes completely neutral after a few hours. I work out hard three times a week and I have never sensed any underarm odor with this product. It's not perfumed, so I feel fine adding my own scent after I apply it.
It is a bit expensive - $16 a pop, but one bottle lasts for almost a year. Another important point: there is no rub off or white powder left on clothes.
Okay, I'm thrilled Arm and Hammer has a natural product.
Finally, mainstream anti-stink-stuff.
Hopefully it shows up a Walmart.
I have used Crystal deodorant for at least a decade and it works beautifully. The trick is to apply it under your arms wet and you will smell clean and fresh all day and night. Even works when I work out.
I personally do not like Tom's.
Thanks for this reminder. As much as I do not want the Alzheimer's disease that seems to come along with putting aluminum on my underarms, I find myself choosing the easy way with the drug store antiperspirants.
I have tried Doctor Burt's Herbal Deoderant by Burt's Bees, and it doesn't work UNLESS you apply some kind of powder like talc right after you spritz it (my friend Val taught me this trick. Thanks Val!).
The Burt's Bees combo is just as effective as anything you'll find in the drug store. And the drug store aluminum variety might be effective, but it could eventually cause you to suspect your pet canary is the president when you come down with Alzheimer's. I don't feel like gambling with my sanity.
you can make your own deodorant with cocoabutter, baking soda and essential oil. You heat it and then pour it into an old deodorant cannister.
I tried several of these including the Tom's and the Kiss my face. They were horrible! Not only did they not work (and while I do live in a very hot place, I sweat less than most people. Possibly because I'm lazy) but some of them made me smell horrible! I personally don't think sweat stinks until it sits on you for a while. I notice that I kinda of like the way men smell when they sweat as long as it's fresh sweat and not several hours old. Men however, seem less enthused about female sweat, so I try to control it even if all I'm doing is going to bed (for sex). The smell those deodorants make can only be described as inhuman! It's not like sweat, it's not even like body odor it's like a foul funk the likes of which cannot be found in nature. My husband at the time tried some of these also and found the same thing- they made him smell worse!
I'm really wanting to find a deodorant that is organic, for my health and sensitive skin, and also cruelty free, like most of my cosmetics. But so far, I'm stuck using Dove ultimate smooth cashmere, which doesn't bother my skin but does contain aluminum and other chemicals.
The crystal works for me.
I had a co-worker who used a couple of these. She smelled AWFUL. The boss finally had to tell her to use something that worked. She complained that the boss-- a woman--was being sexist (?). The boss went to HR, and they made the woman get a real deodorant.
I was wondering if any of you have tried virgin coconut oil based deodorant? Does it work?---
Lush makes a deodorant powder w/ coconut. It smells great and works really well. Sure you will sweat a bit in situations like exercising etc, but it's not horrible. Would I use it before a big presentation- no, but general everyday use, it's great.
I use Lady Speed Stick and it works well for me so my husband started using it we both use powder fresh.
Another natural alternative that people might want to consider is a product called Body Mint. It's not your typical spray or roll-on deodorant, but rather a pill. The main ingredient is chlorophyll. I've been using it for a few years now and have had nothing but positive results.
I tried a few different natural deoderants...they worked for about an hour. I have some hippie friends who use natural alternatives and they SAY it works great...what I don't tell them is that I have to breathe through my mouth when I sit in the subway seat next to theirs on a hot day.
