Basketball Player Richard Jefferson Dumps Fiancee Hours Before Wedding

Former New Jersey Net star Richard Jefferson bailed on his stunning fiancée -- pulling the plug on his posh Manhattan wedding at the 11th hour without even alerting some of the guests, The Post has learned.

The cold-footed forward's decision to ditch onetime Net dancer Kesha Ni'Cole Nichols was so last-minute that some of his oblivious friends had already shown up last Saturday at the swank Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle for the $2 million wedding that never happened.

While it's true his behavior doesn't come across as too "gentlemanly" at least he had enough sense not to go through with a marriage that he obviously wasn't 100% into. Heartache now, but that's better than a bad marriage later.

Better now than after. Is it a terrible thing? Absolutely. But if he's not ready to get married, then he should not get married. How many people are miserable because of rash decisions and to end the marriage in a year or two with both parties at war is certainly worse than calling off a wedding. Embarrassing? Sure, but she will come out of this a lot more popular than she was. Adversity like this makes celebrities out of the participants. A few years from now, she may be grateful for the way things happened today.

In the long run, this is preferable to divorce.

Good points, but if he really did fail to notify people, than it speaks volumes of his lack of maturity, as does allowing it to get that close to the wedding day.

Having said that, I don't understand why any of these younger NBA guys get married to begin with. The affairs are rampant and they should just stay single.
