Wall Street Journal:

It was instantly clear after Sept. 11, 2001, that our security agencies knew little about al Qaeda's inner workings, could not detect its operatives' entry into the country, nor predict where it might strike next.

So he's just saying that we had to eliminate our rights in order to protect them. That was cowardly and illegal.

Why is this guy still walking around and breathing in free air? He should have been jailed by now or disbarred, fired and disgraced at the VERY least.

What a load of self-serving, self righteous, BS from Yoo. Why aren't he and and the others "lawyers" from the OLC disbarred for manipulating the law of the land? These men have no integrity whatsoever.

With all the evidence of criminal activities in the Bush administration, would Yoo acknowledge that excessive power in the hands of the president, could destroy our Constitution and country? Yoo and people like him are far more dangerous than a terrorist attack. Thousands have died to protect our democracy and Constitution who is he to blithely rationalize this criminal behavior?

The dripping sarcasm in Yoo's statement is all you need to know about the man. He is a blind ideologue and crony. He is also a lying traitor. Shame on Yoo!

Tuckerndfw: I seriously doubt Yoo can be prosecuted. Offering a legal opinion is not a crime. Acting on that opinion is the crime & President Obama said he was not going to prosecute anyone for following bad legal advice. That pretty much closes the door to any prosecutions unless the international criminal court gets involved. Which is highly unlikely.

http://online.barrons.com/article/SB113538491760731012.html

Barron's of Wall Street is not a liberal publication by any stretch of the imagination.

http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS331&q=barron%27s+impeachment&aq=f&oq=

Choose your own source, there are a lot of them. They all say exactly the same thing. Barron's requires a paid subscription to read their online archive.

The allegation is that house detectives on the NYSE uncovered a large insider trading scam and that the investigation led to Bush's warrantless domestic spying program. It was said at the time that Barron's obtained the detectives report. As soon as the story of the domestic spying broke in the NY Times Barron's came out immediately and said impeachment proceedings should be started in Congress.

Many of these allegations were supported independantly in a Bloomberg Special Report.

If one can rationalize breaking the law, there's no need for a justice system.

I can give very valid, albeit personal, reasons for every crime in the book.

It sickens me that tis man is walking free. He belongs in prison.

I just read about how some of the young protesters in Iran were raped and abused and this marks them and makes them shunned in Iranian society. So a young person fighting for freedom is voilently raped and abused while a sick lawyer willing to defile our country by twisting the law is allowed to walk free. Humanity can do better than this.

Well I see that 'Doctor Yes' hasn't changed his tune a bit., To summarize his point, the president can do anything he damn pleases because he is the president. Finding individual targets is too much work so the thing to do is just intercept and listen to everything. And note while he talks about Afghanistan there is nothing in his statement that limits it to any country whatsoever. As long as it meets the president's self-determined definition of 'national security' all communication, of whatever type and whatever purpose is available to be monitored without any approval from either congress or the judiciary. Is there anything in Yoo's argument saying that the president couldn't just decide that finding people who disagree with the president was essential for 'national security' and just monitor everybody for key phrases criticizing himself?
