Us has obtained video of the 1984 Pepsi commercial shoot with Michael Jackson that had a tragic pyrotechnic accident, resulting in Jackson's head catching on fire.

The burns and hair loss associated with the accident have been cited as the beginning of Jackson's painkiller addiction.

The video below shows two takes - in the first the explosion goes off as planned, after Jackson is out of the way. In the sixth the explosion goes off too early, while Jackson is standing right there.

Jackson's head is engulfed in flames, which he at first does not realize as he continues performing. Handlers then rush out to put out the flames.

No wonder they are saying that he wore wigs. That accident was devastating and most have been incredibly painful. I guess it started down the road to his own destruction.

I agree that it should have been shown to counter the tabloids, but I also think it should have come with a strong warning label. It is horrifying. I felt sick for hours after watching it.

I object, Bad, Dangerous, and History run miles on Thriller, which in my opinion is overrated by 35+ year olds.

Thriller and Off the Wall aren't notable for the title songs. It's the other tracks that give the 2 albums legendary status. They were life soundtracks. Corporations changed that around the late 80s. Bad was so-so. But Dangerous and Invincible were made in the lame modern era of 1-3 moderate hits and 10-18 filler songs that no one wants to hear. But you youngsters wouldn't know nuthin' bout an album full of top 40 hits.

I agree!

He might have been a confused, delicate man in his personal life, but his music is timeless. I just heard a new remix of his song "Beat It" that was wonderful. I listen to it in my spinning class and on my way to work. It's techno-trance!! :)

I wish I wouldn't of watched it! Horrible!
Also, it appears he isn't aware of it for a few seconds.
This is one reason Pepsi is #2 soft drink in the world, always and forever!

This video should never have been shown. Michael Jackson lead a
sad, broken life. Now in death he continues to be trashed, and used.
There is not a spec of respect given to this man - to this extraordinary talent
who was sad, so lonely and so broken.
Media is looking for any crumb, any angle no matter how disrespectful
and will milk it and distort it.
I wonder if Mr. Jackson had even one friend, one person he could really
trust. He was surrounded by parasites, losers and slimy people, who
cared nothing for him. And that includes his "family" who lived off of him
then and now are hungry for every dime they will earn from HIM now...
His Drs. were the slimest of the slime - Drs.who lost their licenses,
Drs. who had NO "hospital privledges" - Drs. who were NOT Board Certified.
And every hanger-on, is trying to get a piece of him now - including people who
"worked" for him - in some cases for 3 weeks. And the media will put anyone on
the air or in print - especially the ones with the most bizzare tales and LIES.
This video should never have been shown - it humilates and disrespects Mr. Jackson.
He deserves RESPECT and he deserves to REST in PEACE.

I think Diana Ross and Elizabeth Taylor were probably friends he could trust. The problem was he was hurt so many times and by all accounts, extremely sensitive emotionally and physically.

This video coming out may seem disrespectful, but it's also opening many people's eyes to his very real problems that the media made out to be "weird eccentricities." I think that is somewhat good. I'm so angry that it always seemed to many people he wanted to be white when the evidence was out there that he had vitiligo. Michael was ashamed and so many people just never saw it or heard him talk about it.

My only wish now is that the molestation charges could be proven false. That still taints him and it breaks my heart.

Get the book from Aphrodite Jones, a Fox News Reporter, called Conspiracy. She sat in the courtroom every single day and grossly reported inaccurate information because she said it was a mob mentally the press had against Jackson. She said reporters did not cover what was really going on in the courtroom, which was the prosecutions case falling apart due to witnesses who clearly lied on the stand, and the alleged victim and his mother were scam artist and not credible. Any evidence the prosecution had helped Jackson, like porn. He had a lot of it but it was only straight porn like Hustler, Playboy and Naughty Neighbors - there was not child pornograpy or even gay pornograhy.

Jones was disgusted and felt guilty, so she wrote a book and published it herself because no publishing house wanted to get the story out. Another good author is Randy Taraboelli, he is the celeb biographer to the stars like Doris Kearns Goodwinis to presidents. He knows his stuff and had been friends with Jackson since 1978.

To correct falsehoods-Michael hadn't started having plastic surgery as a lark. Michael fell on stage while performing and broke his nose. That's what started it--along with his father calling him the regrettable nickname of "big nose" all his childhood.

Then surgeries &painkillers were needed after this horrific, negligent act by the Pepsi commercial concert people. As someone who suffered from first degree burns--which are extremely painful--one can't even sleep---I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE the EXCRUCIATING PAIN --24 hours a day--that Michael endured with second and third degree burns---that he had to have surgeries for. That one tragic day led up to now---

Without this horrifying incident, Michael and his life, would have been extremely different--and extremely better.

I wish they hadn't taken the Pepsi job. It led to his life from that horrible day becoming a tragedy. Prior to that, Michael wouldn't take hardly any medications at all. I wish someone had been brought on charges of negligence against the pepsi commercial special effects people--but as always, Michael was always too kind, too forgiving.

The world lost a great entertainer, and more importantly-- a great, generous, kind person.

Michael's in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the most charitable entertainer-- millions in donations to charities. Even in death, he left 20% to charity.

It's sad that only in death, did the media come to more fully appreciate him, as well as the world. Michael will be missed. Gone too soon..

Read Bill Wyman's essay in WSJ. He became self-absorbed. All the money in the world can't fix and repair what ails you inside. He hadn't created anything in 20 years; did 2 tours in the last 20 years. He basically just stopped performing and creating and the MJ we know, remember and loved is the one pre-Pepsi commercial and the hair incident. I remember that commercial, but never saw the end result footage, which we are seeing now. And remember, back in 1984, we didn't have controls on pain killers like we do now..

On the good side, he did struggle to find a way to keep existing. He had kids (although artificially). But Michael brought a lot of his troubles on himself, and he / the family shouldn't be pointing fingers at media, at the law, at fans who they claim desserted him. Michael Left us, we didn't leave him.

After reading the above, it makes you wonder why so many "name" entertainers didn't show for his memorial.

Actually, you should read Randy Taborelli's book on Michael Jackson. He is the biographer to the stars as Doris Kearns Goodwin is the biographer to former presidents. He has known Michael Jackson since 1978 and he has an indepth knowledge about Michael and makes no apologies. However, what he does not do is just talk out of the side of their mouth like Bill Wyman, who didn't say anything different than those who don't have a favorable view of the man.

Did Michael create a lot of his own troubles, you bet he did. However, you can't say that he's to blame for everything. Case in point, the molestation trial none of those reporters actually reported what was going on in the court room and how the prosecution didn't have a case, not one! Sure, Michael put himself in that situation but the question should be how is this grown man so trusting after the Jordon Chandler accusations, again... no evidence proven at all. But the media hung this man out to dry... why? Because he was eccentric and changed his face - that's really the story.

pt. 3

And for Wyman to question all that Michael Jackson has done and his impact on the industry, it shows he wasn't a fan and can't really comprehend the amount of success and achievement Michael Jackson achieved as a solo artist. The fact that he hasn't toured since 1997 and he's gotten this amount of out pouring - it shows people wrote off Michael Jackson but they never stopped loving the man and his music and recognize the impact he had on so many.

Lastly, your question about why didn't more celebs show up to the memorial? What's the point of that question? Are you saying he wasn't as talented or not beloved because people have other lives? The memorial was for the fans and not celebs.

This frustrates me so much! He did tour in the 90s and made some damn good music at the time. He was so talented that even "self-absorbed," he made some interesting and enjoyable songs. "Give in to me," "History," "They Don't Really Care about Us," and "Stranger in Moscow" are just some examples.

It was the last decade where he stopped creating. He never left us! He had to deal with people trying to destroy him and it's obvious he wasn't handling it very well. :(
