NYT: Why Is The Obama Administration Waiting To Act?
New York Times:
Unemployment is rising. Foreclosures are surging. Lending is still constrained. So why exactly is the Obama administration waiting to act?

I must admit it is kind of comical to see the nearly broke NYT "advise" Obama on financial and job matters. :)
Also funny sounding is their idea that the best way to ease fears about deficit spending is to spend yet more on health care - so long as we apprear to do it responsibly. Ur?? The best way to ease fears about deficit spending is, of course, to do less of it.
If the issue is that the stimulus has not gotten it done and that it is too "backloaded" with money for 2010 and 2011 when we need help now, Congress should re-assess the existing package, reallocate the $ to program that will do something now, and not create yet another spending package of dubious value.
Gov't should, however, pressure banks to lend more - but even this has to have a limit - after all, lending $ to anyone and everyone is a large part of how we got in this mess to begin with.
Small business needs access to credit. All the funding offered for small business so far is so restrictive and poorly done that even banks don't want to handle it. They make no money and as usual it favors businesses that really don't need it. As always, if you meet all the criteria set up for the funding you probably wouldn't need it.
If we're going to create jobs small business, not giant wall street fat cats, need access to affordable credit that actually works for the lender and the borrowers. I could create three jobs this week if we had the working capital to do it.
Gotta run. Before I go, one last performance for all the tr0llies:
Whenever I chance to meet
some tr0llies on the street
They wonder how does a man get to be this way
I've always got a smiling face
Anytime and any place
And everytime they ask me why
I just smile and say
You've got to
m0ck a tr0llie each morning
and let them know you laugh about them when you're gone
m0ck a tr0llie each morning
and bl0g like the de.vil when you get back home
Well people may try to guess
The secret of a happiness
but some of them never learn it's a simple thing
The secret i'm speaking of
Is a bl0gger finding tr0ll m0cking love
and the answer is in this song
that i always sing
You've got to
m0ck a tr0llie each morning
and let them know you laugh about them when you're gone
m0ck a tr0llie each morning
and bl0g like the de.vil when you get back home
If banks don't want to lend, the government should bypass the banks and start letting small businesses and homeowners facing foreclosure borrow directly from them. The banks could care less about Main Street -- and the economy is approx. 75% consumer spending. They could drive the economy off a cliff, and thanks to Bush, they think they can just come with their hands out and we'll bail them out again! Problem is, if no one is working, no one is paying taxes, so there won't be any money to give them! And most Americans could care less if the banks go completely out of business!
They won't lend money, but they will spend billions to fight any regulation that might prevent a meltdown! We see where their priorities lie!
homes are saleing good here. Drought is over. Tourism up,lake up. Jobs aren't as good, but ok! LIES?
Dems in 2007: The surge in Iraq will fail.
Dems in 2009: We need a surge in Afghanistan.
Dems in 2007: Bush's deficits will mortgage our children's future.
Dems in 2009: We need to quadruple the deficit for our children's future.
We can play this game all day.
SOON THE END OF THE REPUKE PARTY.AND WERE GOING TO PARTY .THE WORLD KNOWS WHAT LOSERS THEY ARE.THEY WILL NEVER GET RESPECT AGAIN.MAYB
note to self .proof read lol
I sincerely think that the landscape for business has to change for any attempt at recovery to be made and healthcare reform is at the head of it. If businesses no longer have to foot the bill for healthcare, they can hire more people.
You and I already pay for the uninsured--through a very costly and ineffective system. It needs to be reformed.
Your point is well taken. Businesses pay for heath coverage as an incentive benefit. No reason that would not continue .
are you the i in 47 million that go to the emergency room on my tab.
who pays for it now?
Agreed. Unfortunately we're keeping the "employer mandate" and trying to make it STRONGER. We're keeping all the problems of our fatally flawed health care system and still calling it "reform".

Bush's tax cuts for the extremely wealthy helped cause the current recession---along with the massive spending for his illegal war.

2 Questions:
1) How did tax cuts cause the current recession?
2) If it is an illegal war, why are Democrats repeatedly funding this massive spending?
obama stole them lol
Bill Ayers has them.
The tax cuts---the first in American history during a time of war---starved the federal government of the funds necessary to do its job, and only enriched those who were already wealthy.
The Democrats fund the war because they support the fine men and women who serve in our military,
What's your next stupid question?
Please provide a link that the federal govt was "starved of funds."
Bringing the troops home will support the troops and save money - why do Dems refuse to do this?
they think the war doesnt cost money .shhh
sorry wars lol
Thanks. I remember seeing the conservative economist known as "the father of Reagonomics" on television. He stated that the Bush tax cuts solved a problem that didn't exist and that to make them during a war was totally irresponsible.
Democrats oppose the war but they fund the war because they support the troops who are fighting it. Because if they stopped funding it the troops would have to stop fighting it (the war the Democrats oppose).
Right. That makes sense.
1. it was the massive SPENDING of the Bush-admin
2. Why did the GOP introduce and vote for Biush's spending#spree and his illegal wars in the GOP-DOMINATED HOUSES in the first place?
You make a claim but provide absolutely no proof of the claim.
How did tax cuts, which created 7 million jobs, cause a recession?
The tax cuts essentially helped to redistribute the wealth to 5% of the population, thereby increasing the wealth gap (when Bush left office) to its widest since 1929. It is what is faulted for the great depression. The change in tax codes made it advantageous for companies to give bonuses and higher salaries to CEOs, which we know there are few CEOs who would turn that down -- rather than giving it to the employees.
By keeping salaries of employees down (essentially 95% of Americans have seen a $2,000 a year cut when accounting for inflation), it choked off all disposable income for 95% of us, which in turn stagnated the economy. That is the reason Bush sent out the first stimulus checks in February 2008, to give people money to spend in order to stimulate the economy. What he didn't count on is the fact that most people used that money to pay bills or put it in the bank to save it.
The tax cuts Bush gave essentially cost us $300 billion in tax revenue at the same time as waging 2 wars, with no way to pay for them.
Educate yourself!
New York Times is just the conservative media hammering the President for no reason. They should team up with Fox News! Even if they stimulus plan doesn't work, it is not the President's fault. At least he tried. All bush tried was to screw Americans while giving lots of money to Haliburton and the evil oil industry
And the BBC?
And BB King?
And Doris Day?
And Matt Busby?
As long as this country languishes in the wake of his disastrous administration, Bush will be on the minds and lips of us who watched this country deteriorate to a banana republic.
