Obama Ad

Barack Obama's campaign arm is going after Republican and Democratic Senators alike in a major new health care reform advertising campaign that could last for the remainder of the month.

Organizing for America's 30-second spot, titled "It's Time," was formally made public to reporters including the Huffington Post in early July. Now the details of the ad, which frames the need for health care reform around personal stories of struggle, have officially been released. And they're impressive.

OFA will be running the ad on national cable, the District of Columbia, local stations in Arkansas, Indiana, Florida, Louisiana, Maine, North Dakota, Nebraska and Ohio, and major online news sites. While no financial figure for the purchase was offered, an official with the group said the spot will be airing for the next two weeks -- roughly to the point when the Senate Finance Committee is hoping to finalize its version of health care legislation.

From the details it is easy to infer just which Senate votes the White House and, by extension, leadership in the Democratic Party see as most critical to health care's passage. No Senators are named in the ad. But the spot is airing in the home states of critical moderates - Senators Ben Nelson, D-NE, Olympia Snowe, R-ME, Susan Collins, R-ME, Mary Landrieu, D-LA, and Blanche Lincoln, D-AR - as well as recalcitrant Democrats - Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D. - and retiring Republicans - Senators Mel Martinez, R-FL, and George Voinovich, R-OH.

"Millions of Americans lose their health insurance when they lose their job, are denied care because of a pre-existing condition, and delay care or skip medication because they can't afford it," said OFA Executive Director Mitch Stewart in a statement trumpeting the ad's release. "Skyrocketing health care costs are hurting American families and straining already-strapped budgets for businesses and governments. It's time to reform our health care system to lower costs, preserve patient choice and ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable care."

OFA itself has tried to influence the health care debate through the collective power of its 13 million members. The organization, which is left over from the Obama presidential campaign and operates in basic coordination with the Democratic National Committee, has hosted house parties on the need for reform. It has also sponsored online town halls for its members and launched a website aimed at allowing individuals to share their personal stories of medical struggle.

Through it all, an OFA official says, the broader goal remains to make common citizens the face and voice of the need to systematically overhaul the health care system. The ads, which come as two major Senate committees (Finance and HELP) are finalizing work on respective outlines for health care legislation, are the latest and most aggressive steps in that process.

Senator Mel Martinez is a puppet and incapable of making up his mind. He would be lost without republican talking points. The same is true for congressman Mica.

30 seconds and it's potent. They could run an 8 hour ad and still not scratch the surface of the horror stories that are out there regarding what people have suffered at the hands of the profiteers who have hijacked our health care system and made it into a money machine by charging high premiums and denying care to people in distress.

Can the Obama administration do something about reducing costs for medically needed pharmaceuticals?

If tax payers are paying taxes to FUND RESEARCH through NIH, and NIH then passes results on to pharmaceuticals who then jack up the costs of medically necessary drugs while congress allows the insurance industry and hospitals to NEGOTIATE THE COSTS OF THESE DRUGS - YET THE GOVERNMENT FAILS TO PARTICIPATE IN REGULATING THESE COSTS ON BEHALF OF THE AMERICAN TAX PAYER, then WHY ARE TAX PAYERS BEING MADE TO PAY TWICE FOR DRUGS THAT THEY WERE ALREADY TAXED FOR WHEN PROVIDING THE FUNDING FOR THE DRUG-RESEARCH?

WHERE IS THE VOICE OF GOVERNMENT ON BEHALF OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

Barack, get dynamic and forceful FAST, you need a STRONG, CREDIBLE Helthcare Plan passed to implement the rest of your agenda and for the 2010 and 2012 elections.
The Insurance Companies are spending over a million A DAY to defeat Health Care.
Time for world - class CJ'S to make their appearance.

It is time to stop calling the Blue Dogs Democrats. It insults dogs.

It is time to quit funding them with party money.

It is time to make them put up or shut up.

People in Louisiana don't want health care reform? Nebraska? North Dakota? Ohio? Arkansas? Maine? Florida? Of course they do.

Get on board, Senators. You represent entire states, not districts. Your states need healthcare reform just like the rest of America.

It's time to make them out up or shut up.

We are desperate for change and maybe finally people are realizing that it's not coming from the top. It's going to be from us. Outside the system. Building a big enough network of our own to make the big boys sit up and take notice.

Are you ready? It's time to take money away from them.

Insurance companies should be a thing of the past. We can't afford to pay twice for everything. Once to the insurance comapny, and once to the doctor. Once to the insurance company, and once to the hospital. Once to the insurance company, and once to the body shop. This is ridiculous. We have this middle man who makes everything unaffordable and does nothing but pocket cash and make an art of denying people benefits. Time to get rid of them once and for all.

I guess you have no problem with a third of current health care costs going to PRIVATE paper pushers. Much of their time is devoted toward finding or creating loopholes to deny claims. Meanwhile, other Western countries have health care systems that cost half as much and deliver full health care. Even Americans who visit these countries and get sick or injured there are fully covered by their governments.

I also bet you cheer when an American family loses their home because a catastrophic illness or injury wasn't covered.

It doesn't matter who is in the White House now. Or rather, all our problems would have faced any president. For those who think everything would have been different with a Republican at the helm, you couldn't be more wrong. The country has been plundered by its government and corporate leaders for the past 40 years. Taxes will have to go up, not only within states to meet their budgets, but federally, to meet all the neglected infrastructure and vital security changes. Sorry America, the party's over. Over-consumption is as dead as a doornail. Prepare to tighten your belts and lower your expectations. This is no commie takeover, nor is it a facist goose-step into the future. This is what happens when "no new taxes" meets "spend like a drunken sailor".

Much of the problem relates to efforts to give all the wealth to the "chosen", so they can help the peasants; at least that seems to be how their faith-based economy is set up.

Single payer will increase government control in our lives, I would pay almost any amount to keep them out. Before long this country will not be the United States of America, but instead the United States of Obama. A lot of blood has been shed for the freedom we have and if the government oversteps it boundaries there will be more to come.

Okay then, please put your plan in writing for the Americans who don't have health care or too little of it. They would like to sign up.

My sister and stepson were laid off in March 2009. As a result they no longer have health care and cannot afford Cobra ($500.00 a month).

waiting for your reply with detailed information regarding your health care plan.

Thanks!

VR said, "A lot of blood has been shed for the freedom we have and if the government oversteps it boundaries there will be more to come. "

I don't think he has any firm plans about healthcare reform, unless it involves armed insurrection.

You don't have to sign up for single payer if you choose not to. No one is going to FORCE you to participate.

But you and your current insurance will benefit from the competition of a government plan driving down costs.

Love your private insurance company all you want. Pay them almost anything, we don't care.

The rest of us would rather spend our income on something other than lining the insurance industry's pockets, like food and lodging.

Oh fabricnthreads you are a true obamabot, take the profit out of any business and its quality will suffer. Why do think contractors who build and pave roads do it better and faster than the state highway dept? My plan is if you do not have a job who is providing healthcare, pay for it yourself, if you have not saved enough money to afford why should that be my responsibility? There will be no public-private plan, that is idiotic, the private go public. And 1,500,000,000,000 is a drop in the bucket for healthcare

We need some leadership from the White House Obama.

Perhaps you could take a little time off from baseball, golf and schlepping the family to Paris to do a little work on healthcare. Having your camp-pain do the job for you is laughable.

This is genuinely funny. Bush took more vacation than any president in history and you whine because Obama takes a few days off and you can't stand the fact that he actually engages in real foreign policy. The rest of the world respects him - they hated Bush because he was an ignorant and dangerous nincompoop.
