At first I thought they were there to demolish the auto factories.

Somebody better go check on the little old ladies living in that apartment building who spend their time looking out their windows.

If that really happened, some windows would have been broken.

A fighter jet doesn't "buzz."

I agree, the first person to fire would be the person giving the orders and then the captain and pilot.

This building would be in major shambles and the person standing out there would be deaf.

No way, no how, PHOTOSHOP.

OK, one more time, this is not photoshopped, it is an optical illusion caused by a long telephoto lens, the plane is hundreds of feet away from the building. The local TV station interviewed the photgrapher and residents of the building.

What does a jet fighter have to do with a boat race?

Who paid for the jet fuel & why?

Reckless military spending anyone?

Who would have taken responsibility if there had been a tragic outcome?

Privately owned hot air balloons just don't butter some people's biscuits, I guess.

Totally adolescent display by all involved.

It's PR. The taxpaying public wants to see what they're paying for, and it is thrilling. Furthermore, air shows like this are a great recruiting tool. Lots of kids seeing this kind of demo want to grow up to be aviators...and some achieve that.

It ain't adolescent behavior (OK, well, some fighter jocks can be accused of that), and it is an investment in continued funding and pilot recruitment. Tragic outcome? Hey life is a risk. I'm curious to know precisely what you would prohibit in real life in the interest of absolute safety.

This was at a powerboat race. People get killed in boat races. Aside from flight demos and probably boat racing, what else would you disallow if you had the power?

Who paid for the jet fuel? The same people who paid for the jet fuel that flew Bush onto the aircraft carrier when he declared, "Mission accomplished"

If this really happened, the jet wasn't as close to the building as the image indicates. It looks like a shot taken by a telephoto lens. That kind of lens makes the jet look closer to the building than it really was.

All in all, I don't think this stunt should have been approved.

This is quite hard to believe that the crew would get permission to fly this close to people/apts.

Lt's wait and see and then Snopes it.

I'm seeing many suppositions that this photo is a fake.

To all the nay sayers, explain me this: To what end do you think that this would have been done? Profit? The photographer is on assignment with a Detroit newspaper, so the photograph is the the property of the newspaper.

If you still think it's a fake, please, by all means, create your own photo via what ever method you desire and submit it for inspection.

Until then, and I mean this with all respect, shut the fu*k up!

I think the photo is an example of compressed image. The Aircraft is probably a lot further away than it seems to be because it was taken with a telephoto lens that is probably over 500mm. Long lenses tend to do the opposite of a wide angle lens which increases the depth perception of an image.
