Jeff Sessions: "We're Going To Do That Crack Cocaine Thing" (VIDEO)

Senator Jeff Sessions simultaneously shocked and cracked up the Sotomayor hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday afternoon when he said he was looking forward to doing "that crack cocaine thing" with Senator Patrick Leahy and Wade Henderson, the president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

Sessions, in a casual tone, said "Mr. Henderson, It's good to work with you. Senator Leahy and I are talking during these hearings, we're going to do that crack cocaine thing that you and I have talked about before."

After an awkward pause, Henderson laughed to himself and said, "Thank you, Senator, I appreciate that."

While the Senate gallery laughed, and witnesses including NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former FBI director Louis Freeh snickered, Sessions sputtered, "Let me correct the record."

Sessions explained: "I misspoke. We're going to reduce the burden of penalties in some of the crack cocaine cases and make them fair."

And the SAD thing about this IS ------- Sessions sincerely believe it's fine for him to "misspeak", definitely not Sotomayor. Furthermore ----- Sotomayor DID NOT misspeak. Her statements were taken out of context (which is ALL the GOP could "dig up" ------ which is precisely WHY they wanted more time to probe ---- not READ facts (documents).

i think we should take that statement totally out of context, manufacture a sheet-load outrage, send out a detailed list of talking points to all the news media followed by an army of talking heads to act shocked and harm and divide the country even more for selfish partisan purposes!!!!

Whitehouse just "outed" Sessions when he admonished him and others about attempting to lobby the nominee to signal her intentions about how she'd rule on upcoming 2nd amendment legislation. He called in "crossing the line" and "inappropr­iate." All done in lawyer-speak of course.

I looked at that on tape several times, and I think a person could reasonably believe it meant more than that.

I am sorry and will have to pray about it but, the more I hear from some of these old w.hite guys, the more I h.ate them. Not all w.hite people and not all old w.hite guys, but the ones who you know and I know exactly where they are coming from. They "got the look". Everyone can't see it, but people who have been on the receiving end of their kind know the look. And in fairness to white people who have been on the receiving end of bigotry, I don't know if you have a radar, but it is real.

First of all, there are plenty of people like me who happen to be white in hue who believe that there is no such thing as race. It's been proven that every person on the planet originated from central Africa - therefore we are all related. Secondly, I may not believe in race - but I do believe that culture and its effect on your life shape your opinions for better or for worse. Sen. Sessions is a product of his culture and does not speak for millions of others who happen to have been raised in a completely ignorant environment. Please don't lump all the white people together with the likes of him
