Last night I watched a TiVo'ed recording of "Autumn Leaves" on TCM, where it showed Cliff Robertson receiving electroshock therapy while Joan Crawford (a cougar before that entered into our nation's vernacular) was wringing her hands over his psychiatric condition. Many of his problems stemmed from an unhealthy environment replete with toxic, overbearing relatives who were clearly not acting in his best interests.

We may have come a long way from the Dickensian warehousing of the mentally ill in sanitariums, but this is a painful reminder that we do experience stress-fractures in our lives and that when one does buckle under the pressures, a emotional meltdown is all but inevitable and that some intervention.

For the cynical, it's a case of "Another day, another celebrity meltdown leading to a trip down Nightmare Alley to the crazy house." For Mischa Barton, it's perhaps an opportunity to properly heal and to become whole again.

You are not alone, Mischa. There is help available. Healing will take time. But trust me, you will become a better, stronger person for it.

I usually agree with my buddies when it comes to discussing Hollywood hotties but her hotness was always a mystery to me. I simply don't find her attractive.
