Arquette

David Arquette, who was fighting hunger in New York this week, has issued a statement apologizing for comments he made about Latina women, saying in part, "I have nothing but love and respect for Latina women and women in general of all cultural backgrounds."

Appearing on Fox News earlier this week, Arquette said in part:

"I think Latina women are, I mean, it depends on the woman, but I think they are very, they have great judgment, but there are some that are just nuts. I'm just saying."

And Friday he apologized.

STATEMENT:

"I would like to issue an apology for the comments I made on Fox and Friends. My intent was to be humorous and not offensive. I have nothing but love and respect for Latina women and women in general of all cultural backgrounds. What saddens me most is that it took away from the issue of Hunger in America, for which I was on the show to begin with. I work and a pantry in Venice California with a hispanic women named Delpia (who has been feeding people at St. Joseph's Center for 29 years) and she is my personal hero. Having been raised in Los Angeles I have grown up with a deep and profound love for the Latino culture."

nice attempt to back-track, but "I was just trying to be funny" is the same lame excuse used when others (politicians in particular) get caught making that kind of 'joke'.

Nice apology, though.

Excellent apology. If more people could suck up their pride after having made a boneheaded statement, we'd have a much more civil, humble world.

You know what else would help? If people would accept their regardless of party affiliation.

Here, David Arquette makes a borderline racist/sexist comment, but because he is a democrat, his apology is accepted graciously, and you move on. (he gave money to obama and john kerry and 0 republicans.)

If David Arquette is a republican, you get 100 times as many comments, and 99.9% of them say he's just another example of how all republicans are racist/sexist/bigoted blah blah blah. He is vilified, and his sin is never forgiven.

Insert treatment of clarence thomas, Bill clinton, and even Obama's "sweetie" comment to the waitress during the campaign, and there is no more room to question the hypocricy.

The left hates bigots, unless its their bigots.

Just another example of false equivalency.

When republicants apologize it's always a non-apology in the vein of 'I'm sorry if anyone was offended'.

Mr. Arquette didn't do that and if you can't tell the difference then I feel pity for you.

I would like to think he was just caught in a bad spot; attempting to do good, but evil (F&F) being the corner he happened to be standing on.

Apology accepted. Please try to be more careful in exposing your personal prejudices in the future. Thanx!

He was raising money to feed the hungry, a non-partisan issue. Hungry kids never turn down food because the money to buy it was donated by a Fox viewer instead of an MSNBC viewer.
