David Arquette, who was fighting hunger in New York this week, has issued a statement apologizing for comments he made about Latina women, saying in part, "I have nothing but love and respect for Latina women and women in general of all cultural backgrounds."

Appearing on Fox News earlier this week, Arquette said in part:

"I think Latina women are, I mean, it depends on the woman, but I think they are very, they have great judgment, but there are some that are just nuts. I'm just saying."

And Friday he apologized.

STATEMENT:

"I would like to issue an apology for the comments I made on Fox and Friends. My intent was to be humorous and not offensive. I have nothing but love and respect for Latina women and women in general of all cultural backgrounds. What saddens me most is that it took away from the issue of Hunger in America, for which I was on the show to begin with. I work and a pantry in Venice California with a hispanic women named Delpia (who has been feeding people at St. Joseph's Center for 29 years) and she is my personal hero. Having been raised in Los Angeles I have grown up with a deep and profound love for the Latino culture."

What the H**l was he doing on Faux Friends?
There are no real friends there.
He's just issuing yet another insincere "statement"...it's really called "back-pedaling". I get tired of these pseudo celebs issuing their statements after for once saying what they really felt and it got caught on camera. There's not a "wise Latina" anywhere who believes him.

Raising money to fight hunger, a non-partisan issue. Did you read the article? It was quite clear.

He was promoting his work in the name of ending World Hunger. He's doing a publicity stunt in NYC where he's in a plexi-glass box for some 8 hours a day (presumably hungry).

Every day we slaughter our finest impulses. That is why we get a heart-ache when we
read those lines written by the hand of a master and recognize them as our own, as the
tender shoots which we stifled because we lacked the faith to believe in our own powers,
our own criterion of truth and beauty. Every man, when he gets quiet, when he becomes
desperately honest with himself, is capable of uttering profound truths. We all derive
from the same source. There is no mystery about the origin of things. We are all part of
creation, all kings, all poets, all musicians; We have only to open up, to discover what is
already there."

bit more tro-spective and profound than: DRILL BABY DRILL or USA! USA! USA! i realize...but still.

"Actors are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of
the earth. They deal with more day to day rejection in one year than
most people do in a lifetime. Every day, actors face the financial
challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who
think they should get 'real' jobs, and their own fear that they'll never
work again. Every day they have to ignore the possibility that the
vision to which they have dedicated their lives is just a pipe dream.
With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their
age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life--the car, the
family, the house, the nest egg. But they stay true to their dream, in
spite of sacrifices. Why? Because actors are willing to give their entire
lives to a moment--to that line, that laugh, that gesture, or that
interpretation that will stir the audiences soul. Actors are beings who
have tasted life's nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out
their creative spirit and touched another's heart. In that instant, they
were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever be.
And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that
moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.@

I knew this guy in high school. He hung with the skaters and was always tagging his name on everything.
He was a cool guy, no beefs far as I knew.
Gotta say though, coming from a family of well known actors has served him well in life.

Maybe he has an ex girlfriend that was difficult? I don't know. Sure, it wasn't a wise comment to make. However, since he has never displayed racism before and isn't known as a big sexist, who cares if he lets a little frustration out?

Did you suggest that Don Imus stand by his words? After all, he intended them as a joke. He wasn't stereotyping all African American women. He was speaking about a small, specific group of African American women.

The point isn't always in the intent but the message it sends to others. Any rational person in today's world knows that words like this, meant in jest or stemming from hate and racism, are off limits. We cannot condemn one person for this kind of recklessness and give a free pass to another. While the apology is great, even greater would be curbing the urge to speak controversially without first taking pause and filtering.

For all you people putting down Mr. Arquette: Yes, h stuck his foot in his mouth and has now apologized. But at least he's man/human enough to get out from behind his computer and do something to help others. Put up or shut up. Seriously.

Everybody should help others - Arquette shouldn't get a special thank for someone of his Monetary worth, he should be doing more for society.

This is not being Man Enough - that is doing the right thing.

Chaplin never said that. He PLAYED a little tramp. He did not accuse his fellow actors (and, by extension, himself) of being prostitutes.

But hey, I haven't heard someone called a "vagabond" in decades. "Vagabond," the hot new insult of 1805.

You absolutely cannot make any stereotypical jokes about any group of people except White Men.

White men need to be put in their place, so please, by all means, fire away with anything you got. Doesn't even need to be true or make sense. Just spit it.

I dont want to side with this guy's clear anti affirmative action BS. But on the other hand, Here is something that happened to me recently. I work as an audio engineer. I was helping a black artist set up his mic stand and get ready for a sound check. I was asking him if he needed anything else and etc and, when he responded, he spoke in a voice that was clearly mocking me as a sterotypical nerdy white guy. I thought to my self, "I didnt attempt to speak to him in a mock hiphop-gangsta caricature. I wonder why he felt he needed to mock me like that. Incidentally, after that exchange, he changed and we continued to work together in natural voices. But it there is a certain point to taken there. I treat people with respect based on their individual potential. It is disheartening sometimes to be made fun of by people who would not stand to watch me make fun of them.
Just an observation.

These people in the Entertainment Industry, nowaday think they are so SUPERIOR and POLICY MAKER.

I wished we go back to the days when people in THESE PROFESSIONS WERE CONSIDERED PROSTITUTES. People use to LOOK DOWN at these people, now they worship them.

That ought to humble again....

As an actress myself, I find YOUR comment equating us with prostitutes offensive. (I have NEVER charged for it!) Are YOU going to apologize? Because until you do, David Arquette has the high moral ground over you.
