Giant Blob Of Floating Goo Found Off Alaska's Coast (VIDEO)

The mysterious blob has been identified - it appears to be algae.

Sometimes reality is even stranger than science fiction. A huge unknown substance, described by eye witnesses as a dark, gooey blob is floating off the north coast of Alaska. No one in the area remembers seeing anything like it before.

According to Don Hunter of The Alaska Daily News:

Nobody knows for sure what the gunk is, but Petty Officer 1st Class Terry Hasenauer says the Coast Guard is sure what it is not.

"It's certainly biological," Hasenauer said. "It's definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter.

"It's definitely, by the smell and the makeup of it, it's some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism."

Samples have been taken for laboratory testing to help unlock this mystery.

I agree, I was in a discussion on this topic yesterday evening and the consensus was that it must have a direct correlation with the melting perma-frost; and that it will be interesting to see how the marine life along the 12 miles of this black algae responds to it.

It might be a good thing, or it might not be...yet I'll tell you what, my son and his friends are surfers and the ocean is a dirty place now-a-days...more dead seals, more red tide, and massive amounts of garbage...

I know. I was in California about two years ago (use to live there) and was very saddened to see how much the shoreline has changed, very dirty, it use to be sparkling clean, we would collect seashells, but now, I would't want to touch anything there.
