I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Want to be more confused about the financial crisis? Well, Glenn Beck is your man. In what may be the most convoluted explanation of the recession to date, last night Beck offered a breakdown of Goldman Sachs' web of power. Actually, Beck, somewhat confusingly, calls it a "web of bubbles" at one point.

To be fair, this is complicated stuff. But, it may feel strange to find yourself agreeing with one of Beck's rants, especially because the scrawled diagram on Beck's blackboard looks like the ramblings of a mad man.

Here's one of Beck's best quotes:

"Everything's fixed! Can I ask you a question? Do you think that there's anyone out there without an agenda in Washington... We are being spun in a web of lies, and we are caught up in this web!"

This rant wasn't hard to follow until the end, the concept is simple. GS guys come in do things that balantly favor GS in government, and no one cites a conflict of interest, for example investing big in carbon cap and trade and then sending the VP chairman to a job with the energy department. I'm suprised it's so out there in the open.

So the conservative world that Glenn Beck panders to is just discovering the economic facts of life?

Read your history, folks! This is an old, old story. Our country has always been an oligarchy. Wall Street bankers, GM, MobilExxon, Enron, etc. etc. etc. But we've been brainwashed into believing that we have control over our elected officials when it comes to our economic conditions. And this is just naive! The weight of public opinion has to be incredibly massive to counter those who have regular access to power.

As Beck demonstrated, our government is a revolving door. It's just that the people going through that door come from a different sector these days. But you and I sure won't ever get near that door.

Hey gang, I hate to rain on your parade but a monkey in a suit (Glen, is that you?) could have made half the observations and half the conclusuions that Glen (I'm not taking Darvon, honest) Beck made in this blather session. The fact that he cobbled together and was able to make sense of his meandering babble is the bigger miracle here. Like the proverbial hundred thousand monkeys typing a hundred thousand days eventually producing the bible; a hundred thousand Glen Becks bloviating associated ideas for a hundred thousand days would everntually produce a coherent thought. Nuff said here.

Well Ted, one monkey alone (Glenn) has the number one best selling book in all catagories of the NYT Best Sellers list. I'm thinking that's a far cry from what 100,000 Ted's could put together when NOT typing randomly. I'm just saying...

Maybe Glenn should call Michael Moore - he could have a part in his new movie!

Wow! i can't believe i'm saying this, but Glenn Beck is spot on with this analysis. The fact is that the financial industry and many large companies with strong lobbyists have been fleecing the American people with the implicit endorsement of our elected officials. Robert Reich's "Supercapitalism" (written 2 years ago) does a great job laying out the mutual dependence of our gov't and large corporations.

I agree. Well at least someone is calling it out. Supercapitalism= gateway to fascism.

I thought I'd never say (or write) this, but Beck distilled Matt Taibbi's article in the R0//ingstone really well. Beck maybe a b@d p0pulist, but G0ldm@n S@chs is the true Luc/fer incarnate - they're entrenched in every large financial institution, deal, Government agency (their alumni) and they have both the Dumcrats and Rethuglicans in their pockets (especially Dumcrats) ! They're are, with the complicity of W@// St., responsible for all of the bubb/es in the World since 1929. You want a cab@l ala S.P.E.C.T.R.E http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki//SPECTRE), I give you G0ldm@n S@chs.
Ummm, Bravo Glenn ...... ?

I am really confused. So it works out the most corrupt administration thus far is the Obama Administration since he has hired most of these shysters? It's getting to the point that I wouldn't know who to shoot at if there was a Revolt. It seems that no one ever offers solutions; we just keep finding more and more problems. Well, I have a solution. Instead of sending contributions to political organizations and other self proclaimed saviors, let's just form a Trust with a small contribution of $25.00 each. The purpose of the Trust will be to buy shares of GS and hold them until they reach a predetermined value. In, let's guess, six months the trust will dissolve and we'll all get a rebate of the money GS stole from us. Those CEOs, Directors, and other well placed asshol_s will be left holding virtually worthless stock once the market reacts to the Trust's dumping it's massive shares. There - I did it! I offered a solution and it is probably better than putting another good bull-shi_er in office to get rich.

Hey Glenn, guess what?
That oligarchy has been around for a long while, a very very long while.
It's only that the actions of the last ten or twelve years made it possible for the oligarchy to super concentrate their power. Ummmm, who was in power these last ten or twelve years?

Nice to know that Glenn Beck can watch and read Matt Taibi.
However Beck fails when it comes to dumbing down the material for the masses.
The masses would be better off just reading Matt's material, carefully, and switching off Beck.

I do not like Glenn Beck but he is right. It is a web and Goldman Sachs is the main cause of the financial problems.
