New York Times:

We've known for years that the Bush administration ignored and broke the law repeatedly in the name of national security. It is now clear that many of those programs could have been conducted just as easily within the law perhaps more effectively and certainly with far less damage to the justice system and to Americans' faith in their government.

The NYT is promoting a waste of the taxpayer money at the wrong time, maybe if they had some credibility it would help, This appears to be nothing more than "headline" trash.

Millions of us would gladly donate to help pay court costs because we love our nation and want those who have defiled it prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced. It is the only way we can keep this from continuing or happening again.

I would like to advise the editors of the New York Times that if they have any evidence of illegality by the Bush administration, they should present it to a federal court. And if you had evidence back when it was taking place, why didn't you proceed back then. But I think we all know that calls for "investigations" are just liberal talking points designed to discredit Repuplicans in general and to steer future votes towards Democrats.

Here come the Judge! LOL The report is sufficient for most intelligent people to want an investigation. We already KNOW they broke the law, over and over, so that is not at issue. What is the issue is IF we the people allow them to get away with it. Do we stand for Law and the right of the People to Govern themselves or do we just say "Oh Well" and become a bunch of dumb from the neck up Red Necks! THAT is the issue!!

Any Republican who loves our nation should also be calling for prosecution.

any bets as to what day US AG Holder announces,

"I have made the decision to appoint a prosecutor to conduct a criminal investigation into the Bush administration's harsh interrogation practices used on suspected terrorists."

I'll say.... Friday, July 31st

NYT, the 2ionist of lraq vvar promoter? How conveniently late to call for an investigation. They knew way before we knew. And we already knew by 2004.

Well of course they do. Why do they continue to recycle this story every other week?

NYT made a motion to investigate the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rove regime war crimes.... and I second that motion. All others in favor, please second the motion (or 3rd, or 4th or however many) and say "I"!!!

The Bush Regime is getting so bold and comfortable that their crimes will not be prosecuted that they have the time and nerve to criticize the Obama Administration for trying to fix the mess they've made of this country.... And Lord have mercy, Karl Rove is the "economics expert" for the GOPer's side now. Let's give them all something to do with their time... like working on the defenses for their trials. That ought to keep their lips shut.

while i agree with every single word, it must also be said that words are cheap and nobody knows that better than the NYT --

you can smell the desperation as they try to regain some shred of relevance and "paper " over 8 years of unwavering support for the Bush administration, their criminal acts and their lying propaganda .........

If the abuses of the Bush administration are not investigated, it will be easier in the future for it to happen again. It's important to have a full accounting of what happened, who decided it should be done, and who did it. There need to be significant adverse legal consequences for anybody who broke the law. The leaders of the Khmer Rouge are currently being tried. Pinochet was ready to be tried when he managed to die. The ringleaders of World War II in Germany and Japan were tried and punished. Rwanda murderers have been brought to justice. South Africa tried top officials in the Botha government. We need to investigate and try members of the Bush administration who have broken the law.

After Sept 11, 2001 Karl Rove remarked that they could use this in the next election. From that point forward, political motivation was the driving force in the Bush era White House. I think a full accounting will be hard to come by. Ask yourself. How many detainees were there? Under what circumstances were they detained? How were they treated? How many died while detained. How many were tortured? How many were released with no trial? In other words, how many detainees were just politcal window dressing? If we've captured all these 'terrorists' we must be in real danger.

NYT: We’ve known for years that the Bush administration ignored and broke the law repeatedly in the name of national security.

That's funny. I don't recall you ringing that bell at the time.

Would this be the same NYT that buried the fact that Gore won Florida in the 19th paragraph of a story that ran the slyly misleading headline that implied Bush received more votes "under most scenarios"?

Would this be the same NYT that beat the war drum and let that odious Judith Miller publish lie after unchallenged lie?

Would this be the same NYT that that reveled in "access" and let Ahmed Chalabi's neice "help" embellish the propaganda?

Would this be the same NYT that uncritically let story after story after story slide into its paper almost unfiltered and then lamented "Oops, my bad. I guess in all the enthusiasm we overlooked some stuff"?

That New York Times? Nice.

Yet they wonder why their readership is falling off. They have been totally biased for years. They are just like the repub. "leaders" giving out misleading information. An informed public makes good choices. It is a sad commentary on any newspaper when citizens get their information from comedians on TV. and the internet. Who has any faith in what is published in newspapers anymore? They damaged themselves, I have no sympathy for any of them.

The sad part is that at some points in the Bush presidency, the Times was complicit in beating the drums for war in the first place.
