'Passion' Actor James Caviezel Hurt In Freak Motorcycle Accident

LEAVENWORTH, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol says James Caviezel suffered cuts and bruises when a man hurled a bicycle into the path of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Trooper Rich Magnussen says "The Passion of the Christ" actor was taken Thursday to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.

Magnussen says the 40-year-old Caviezel, of Woodland Hills, Calif., was wearing a helmet, and that "it could have been a lot worse." The trooper says he doesn't know why the actor was in the area about 14 miles southeast of this city in north-central Washington.

Caviezel portrayed Jesus in Mel Gibson's movie. He was born in Mount Vernon, Wash.

Magnussen says mental issues may be involved in why the 42-year-old Wenatchee man tossed the bike.

His correct name is on that uniform so no he's not playing a role. Besides the caption says he's at a basketball game. If memorey servers me correctly what he is doing is illegal, if you didn't earn the right to wear that uniform you have to remove the service tape and the badge as well as the rank.

He was born in the same town I was, I didn't know that. And coincidentally I have a weekend trip to Leavenworth planned for later this month. Maybe he was visiting family in Mount Vernon and then decided to head over the mountains for a little R&R in Leavenworth. It's a very scenic area and the town is modeled after a Bavarian Village.

He's a very talented actor, I remember seeing him for the first time in The Thin Red Line.

Caveziel's performance in The Passion of the Christ made it a watchable movie. Much like Willem Dafoe in the Last Temptation of Christ, Caveziel made Christ a living breathing human being instead of a greeting card icon. Caveziel's performance more than makes up for Mel Gibson's ham fisted direction. I wish him well.

Not a fan of his. Never have been, and never will be. He's a big-time holy roller, and he actually self-censors his parts because of his religious beliefs. Some people don't do windows? Jim Caviezel doesn't "do" nudity, swearing, sex, drugs, rock 'n roll, FUN. He's lame, very lame.

I beg to differ. Cary Grant, Claude Raines, Humphrey Bogart, (the list is very long) didn't do any of that either and they were beyond remarkable. Caviezel selects interesting roles while leading a quiet, private life. He is no preacherman. His one-time association with MelG should not be grounds for placing him on a "Do Not Touch" list.

He was a heavy smoker and drinker.

i do most of those things in privacy and only for my own satisfaction. he has a right to choose not to do those things if he doesn't enjoy them; it doesn't make him lame or a square. breaking rules and being bad doesn't necessarily render a person awesome.

While he did annoy me in the one interview of his I saw, your right that dose not make him lame or square. Maybe we've had such a steady stream of Hollywood type acting so outlandishly that a guy who keeps his private life private seems un-natural. As long as his not on TV telling me he knows how I should vote because he played Jesus or wearing a full Navy uniform which he has not earned (like he is pictured above) I have no problem with him.

The fact that James Caviezel wore a motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident, and that he walked away with cuts and bruises, clearly shows how helmet laws can and do save lives.
