LOS ANGELES — Court records show Richard Dreyfuss (DRY'-fuhs) has dismissed a lawsuit he filed against his uncle and father.

Dreyfuss sued the men last year, claiming they owed him nearly $4 million on an unpaid loan.

The "Mr. Holland's Opus" and "Jaws" actor claimed he loaned his father, Norman, and uncle Gilbert Dreyfuss, money in the early 1980s. His suit stated the men operated a building in downtown Los Angeles.

The 61-year-old Oscar-winning actor sought and was granted a dismissal of the case last month. Court records did not indicate the terms of any settlement, but allow Dreyfuss to refile the case if necessary.

4 mil is 4 mil that's one heck of a loan for nearly anyone to write off.

How does anyone sue their own parents? He should wait for his ineritance and just let it be. When he was a giving son, he was kind, and now he's taking things personally. Success never gets far when you take things too personally.

* Inheritance works both ways IMO. If I died, I would of course give it all to my family first.

I don't know Dreyfuss's financial situation, maybe he invested with Madoff or lost the lot on financial investments. Either way, if you borrow you pay back.

Somebody cast this man in a new movie. He's excellent. Deserves more than he's getting. He could easily star in any movie again with the right agent. Call William Morris Richard. Get back to where you once belonged.

I think this stingy bug fatehr should sue his son for all the money he spent on him growing up and giving him a roof over his head and food to eat,and all the things that come with working like a dog to give your child all he needs..
i cant beleive he want his money back,,i would give every enny i own if my father or mother ask for it..

I agree. If I made this kind of money my family is welcome to whatever I could spare, no strings attached. Especially my parents who put up with me all those years, ha ha!

perhaps they didn't ask for the money outright, but rather a loan. By making them pay it back hes saving them from becoming welshers.

never lend money to friends and relatives.
Give them only what you can afford to give, and don't expect it back.

That is exactly what Jim Casey the founder of UPS did.....funny he gave a lot of money to Marguerite Casey (who was proud she never worked a day in her life) and she named her foundation after herself instead of Jim the real worker and provider and producer......

His uncle is his Father?

Who cares if he sued his uncle-father. He was great in "The Sting" and "Cool Hand Luke".

He wasn't in 'The Sting' was he? My favorite part of his was his role in a family film who lived underwater- had to save the world. It was a brave role. Better than anything you saw in Jaws. He was the hero in my mind. I can't remember the movie...I'm sorry. Anyone remember this film?

As an attorney, I can assure you that a plaintiff most certainly can "dismiss" a lawsuit. I have filed many motions to dismiss on behalf of petitioners. I have never filed a motion to drop a lawsuit. Further, once a suit has been filed, any relief, including the dismissal of a case, must ultimately flow through the court in the form of a court order, so arguing that a plaintiff drops a suit, while a court dismisses it, is a distinction without a difference. If you are going to attempt to sound like a pompous know-it-all, at least know what you are talking about.
