Chicago Sun-Times:

The Illinois House has put itself on record paying homage to the king of pop, but few lawmakers even realized they had feted the late Michael Jackson.

"Are you kidding me?" said Rep. Kevin Joyce, when told Friday of the House's action, which flew by without virtually anyone noticing.

What are they doing voting yes or no on something that they either haven't read or know nothing about? This is supposed to be their job. They are supposed to know something about things that they vote on. This is unacceptable on so many different levels it's ridiculous.

"Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) said he also was in the dark about the resolution and would have voted against it because of all of the allegations surrounding Jackson.

"I don't think it's proper for us to be honoring that type of legacy," Franks said. "

ALLEGATIONSSSSSSSSSSS
HE WAS ACQUITEDDDDDDDD
WHEN WILL THESE PEOPLE PUT THESE ACCUSATIONS ASIDE???
how about we honor what we know to be true? and that is that Michael Jackson was one of the greatest humanitiarians to ever live. he gave his time and money to help those who couldn't help themselves. why should all of that fall to the wayside because of some accusations that have yet to be proven? He was a good man who deserves to be honor for the work that he did.

"The Southwest Side Democrat said that since he never got a chance to read the resolution...".

What is he getting paid to do?

Enough said.

First, as you say, these people never read what they voted for!
Then, secondly, one of them, Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) "said he also was in the dark about the resolution and would have voted against it because of all of the allegations surrounding Jackson." Sure, there were allegations that were proven false and laid to rest in a court of law after a 14 week trial four years ago-- does this lawmaker choose not to accept the outcome of a jury trial? What kind of lawmaker is that? In fact, this makes me wonder, do the naysayers in Congress who are against a resolution honoring Michael Jackson feel the same way about the court system as Rep Jack Franks does? At least House Minority Leader Tom Cross -- or his spokeswoman-- spoke truth to warped power. Certainly, Rep. Mike Bost, Rep. Kevin Joyce and Rep Jack Franks have neither worked as hard or done as much for our country as Michael Jackson!

Yes, because giving tribute to Jackson is far more important than real work.

Such resolutions are common for public figures, an example that comes to mind is when Elvis died.

Here's what bothers me about this--They passed this resolution in a package of 9 resolutions and didn't even read the resolutions. Then some were mad that they accidentally voted to honor Michael Jackson.

What other things have they passed without bothering to read them that have proven to be detrimental to our state?

Isn't there some sort of law that says they have to know what they're voting for before they are allowed to vote? Even the Motion Picture Academy makes the voters watch the films they are voting for.

Michael Jackson is the "Greatest Entertainer of All Times".
His fans all over the world know this.
That's why we don't care whether corporate law makers pay tribute to Michael Jackson or not.
Michael Jackson's best tributes always come from his fans.
Here's one of my favorite tributes from Stockholm, Sweden

I am a longtime fan of Michael Jackson and I'm happy that SOMEONE in our triflent government decided to do the right thing and honor the man for his lifetime of work to help people in this country and all over the world. He gave millions and millions of dollars to many, many children's charities across the world, built much needed hospital wings, funded Boys & Girls Clubs, cancer research, AIDS research, and just a whole host of worthy causes, and nobody even noticed. Our media was too busy talking negative about his appearance, not even bothering to mention the fact that he had TWO very serious, incurable diseases. The media could have brought national attention to these diseases, but that wasn't sensational enough! Americans LOVE DRAMA and that's what the media fed off of when it came to MJ, instead of all of the good he did.

But let the white chicks with the African baby adoption addiction give some money to someone and it's all over the papers, the internet, and on tv, PLUS interviews to go along with it. MJ was always targeted by our narcissistic media and he did not deserve to be treated that way, especially when his entire life while he made music, he was giving away millions of his earnings.

Thank you for saying this so eloquently. it is so very true. i wish everyone could see and understand this but there are still some who refuse to give MJ the honor he deserves. They didn't give it to him in life and they don't want to give it to him in death. it is all very sad.

Why are all of our lawmakers admitting that they don't even read the resolutions put before them to be made into law? If they aren't doing their jobs, why are they being paid? This is going on even at the national level and it is ridiculous. They have assistants and pages that could each be assigned a portion of the resolution to read, and then discuss it with the lawmakers before they vote on it. To just pass or refuse to pass legislation without reading it is just irresponsible. I must say in this case, I am glad it snuck pass all of them, because Michael deserves to be honored.

Absurd........completely and totally absurd. What else is new from so called lawmakers who make the legislature a platform for their personal cause or crusade.

I think all of Illinois should be proud of Michael Jackson," she said. "It passed unanimously, really, because it was an agreed-upon resolution. We don't have to debate it. This kid, in my opinion ... gave his entire life to entertaining us."

This Davis broad needs a shrink or truth serum. Only reason it passed unanimously is because it was hidden in other resolutions. Just shows all of the stories about corrupt Illinois politics sre true even at a minor level. Disgusting.

It passed because the lawmakers didn't bother to read the legislation they were voting on. The last I heard, this happens at all levels of our government, including Capitol Hill in Washington! And considering the political corruption that is taking place nationwide, specifically in places like Texas and Alaska, I would venture to guess that corruption is not germane to Illinois.

That being said ... honoring the greatest entertainer ever is not such a bad idea, after all.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:22 PM on 07/18/2009

Greatest entertainer is subjective. Not everyone was enthralled with his talent or him believe me.

Davis should have announced what she was proposing before not after. She was banking on them not reading and it worked. Then she crows it was unanimous. LOL Deceptive and shady lady. Must be a close friend of the Jacksons.
