The National:

About every other Friday for most of the past year, John Sexton, the president of New York University, would duck away from his offices above Washington Square to teach a small seminar class on the American separation of church and state. Sexton has always maintained a full professor's teaching load, which is unusual for the chief executive of a large university. What was even more unusual in this case was that the class met 11,000 kilometres away, in Abu Dhabi.

This sounds to me like rats leaving a sinking ship. Or a vine that sends out offshoots as its central root system is dying.

We can expect to see this more and more. America-based institutions opening 'safe haven' branches on the far side of the world in anticipation of some future American Armageddon. America in 2040 - 400 million people, a collapsing infrastructure and depleted resources. And guns... lots and lots of guns.

So, now we have an oligarchy cartel tier of folks looking out for no. 1 - commoditizing the American people as personal/business currency, feeding off our tax dollars via bailouts of international banks/interests - connected to international interests, worldwide.

Our Founding Fathers are turning in their graves.

This used to be called...TREASON.

I believe it is still called TREASON and it will continue, unabated, because your "We the People..." don't seem to give a hoot one way or the other about what is happening to them.

They don't need to build one in Abu Dhabi. They should build one in Hartford, CT - that will really help. Dubai is too far away.

So, we provide top flight lifelong educations to the world at-large, while our tax dollars and children's debts capitalize the American universities who are investing/building overseas. Don't believe the "Prince" is the only one paying for this - or they wouldn't NEED NYU's intimate and branding involvement. Hope New Yorkers are happy...while our taxes escalate.

Sellouts across the entire spectrumof American business, media/journalism...and now - education. We can't afford to educate our children w/out their going into debt sufficiently to buy their first house...to FUND the American universities...who then go overseas and build...from scratch...newer, more modern parallel universities where citizens can attend FOR FREE (including Israel, Abu Dabi, China, India, et al). They ALL offer universal lifelong free healthcare, because Americans subsidize their security and much more we never get credit for.

When do our children catch a break?

There is an article in Salon re the media's hypocritical coverage of Walter Cronkite's passing...w/out focusing on what he stood for and it really applies to ALL American life/businesses - including Wall Street (which OWNS the media via publicly traded media cos. post Reagan's media deregulation).

Education and healthcare should have been sancrisanct...and left to SERVE the hardworking and sacrificing American people. Thank you, Republicans.

Sounds like a place I'd like my daughter to.

Also: "oversees 50,000 students, 16,000 employees". Man, talk about bloat. Three students per employee, even with research, is just outrageous. NYU sounds really screwed up.

...or Halliburton...which is now based in Dubai, I believe. They were based in the US before the war profiteering no-bid contract era, post Cheney's CEO-ship and during his Vice Presidency.

This is not news. Abu Dhabi was announced years ago. Most of the cost for this place was shouldered by the prince. I'm not a big fan of the project, but mindless criticism of Sexton is not the answer.

America's higher education has been morally bankrupt for decades......and now that the final economic nail in the coffin is being pounded.....they are showing us their allegiances.

Everyone is a big0t.

People choose various measures of differentness to align themselves with or to reject - religion, color, age, income, national origin, sexual preference, drug use, beauty, height, weight, political party, where you live, criminal history, polygamy, car you drive - the list is very long.

In fact, please move the entire NYC campus to the middle east and give us back our neighborhoods. We are overrun with entitled students who act as if we, the residents, are in their way. Every time a business closes it is replaced with a bar. Our neighborhood, the East Village, just got our first high rise. A dorm.
