In the wake of the recent fatal riots in Urumqi, China, an international beauty contest will open in the city this weekend, reports Xinhua.
Forty girls will battle it out for the title of Miss Tourism Queen International in the capital city of the troubled Xinjiang region.
Riots erupted in Urumqi in early July as tensions between Muslim Uighur people and China's Han majority escalated into violence.
Over 190 people are reported to have died in the disturbances, reports AP.
Xinhua reports that the competition has been held in 80 different countries but has been hosted annually in China for the past five years.
