UPDATE 5:00 PM ET

The director of the fake Sprite ad, Max Issacson, has sent out the following statement regarding the making of the video.

My name is Max Isaacson, I directed and produced the fake Sprite ads that have been making the rounds over the past five days. There have been quite a lot of false statements made regarding these and I would like to make a few things very clear about these spots. First, there was no involvement from either The Coca-Cola Company or Greencard Pictures. Second, this was not supposed to be taken seriously by anybody. They were made completely on spec, which was clearly stated on the YouTube pages on which the ads were primarily seen. I paid for, produced and directed both spots independently. I am frankly quite surprised that spots of this nature were so quickly and easily believed to be legitimate. I hope that all parties involved will understand that this was a simple mistake that went much too far too fast, and that it is now made clear that these were not real commercials, nor were they ever produced with intention of being taken as such.

UPDATE:
The New York Press reports that a New York City-based director was responsible for the now-infamous Sprite ad, and that the spot was produced without Sprite's permission. The ad is the work of Max Issacson, and was not produced in Germany, according to the NY Press.

The NY Press spoke to John Jones IV, the male model pictured in the video: "The funny thing is, it's a spec commercial--it's not even real," Jones said.

Current TV initially reported that the ad had been banned from the air, for pretty obvious reasons. It combines oral sex and the desire for a refreshing Sprite to create a big finish that has to be seen to be believed. It even beats the climax of this similarly-themed ad.

Sex is used to sell EVERYTHING so why is this horrid comercial a surprise? Then we wonder where kids get ideas to have oral sex etc. As soon as people start treating sex like its a natural process the sooner it will no longer surprise anybody.

@Whycee54

The thing is, sex IS natural. Why shouldn't it be? Isn't it better for kids to have oral sex than unprotected sex? It's just another example of how abstinence only sex education doesn't work.

So, Max, it was simply produced for your own viewing pleasure.

I guess a nice, cool "Squirt" in the face would feel a heck of a lot nicer than the other implied kind.

Why'd you use "Sprite" instead of the more fitting brand name?
NoSillyName   02:36 PM on 7/23/2009
You "blew" it.

I've seen worse ads from Guinness, one of which involved an innuendo of a three-some.

"Ad" as in adolescent. Ok.

Sprite has been around for many years and I don't think it's a leader in sales. How often have you thought about Sprite recently?

One way to promote a product is to stage a stunt that will grab attention. This YouTube spoof has attracted a lot of attention--HuffPo and other news outlets have run the story. Imagine how much more attention it would get if it actually ran on television. The lawsuits could run for years.

One showing could put the product in people's minds for decades.

That's effective advertising.

Makes me not want to buy Sprite. I'm surprised you haven't been sued.

Maybe someday someone will do a scientific study to determine how it is that so many people don't understand satire, parody, sarcasm, or exaggeration, but instead are so remarkably literal-minded. I wonder how someone can reach an adult age and have never either encountered these forms of comedy, or understood what they were looking at?

It's called "no sense of humor" and it is rampant.

Thats why every one is going to get snacks instead of watching other commercials. They would tune in to this one.

Well. I am a creative guy who has done successful and award winning advertising work including Cannes winners and I can tell you this; this stuff is not shocking or over the top or even funny. It is just plain stupid easy. So easy that if a creative would present this to me, I would fire him on the spot for coming up with such a lame idea. The "wait a minute they're having sex, oh no, they're not. It is just a fake ad about Sprite. Hooooo we are so bad..." . Come on. Boring.

What? Not real? It doesn't inspire such behavior?

Now wtf am I going to do with 100 cases of Sprite?

Offensive? If you're a prude, but I'm not. I think it's funny (in a juvenile kind of way) and it's certainly sexy. Let's be honest. What man wouldn't want to receive that kind of attention from a pretty girl and go off like a shaken bottle of bubbly pop? Crude? Sure. But beautifully executed.
