HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (AP) -- Two men have been arrested in the beating and robbery of a German tourist in Rockland County.
The thieves in Haverstraw got about $2,800, along with the visitor's credit cards, passport and airline ticket. The belongings have not been recovered.
The unidentified victim arrived last week at Kennedy Airport. A stranger in Manhattan offered him a cheap place to stay.
They took a bus to Haverstraw, but the plans fell through. Police said that man apparently was not involved with the street robbery that occurred later.
Capt. Martin Lund says police worked hard to solve the crime and "put Haverstraw in a better light.''
