Minnesota Independent:

If you're trying to dissuade someone from buying something, it's best not to tell them it's the cheaper option. But that's the strategy behind some GOP opposition to the "public option" contained in the healthcare reform efforts currently being debated in Washington.

Ms Bachmann can say what she likes about health insurance, because it won't affect her. She has lifelong healthcare provided to her because she was elected to Congress. Maybe her concern is that if the private companies are out of business, she will have to have the same healthcare as everybody else, and not an elite, top shelf package?

If the new US system is like the UK National Health system, then private insurance will still be allowed - the main thing that gets for the purchaser is the chance to "Jump the queue".

These people are saying straight out that insurance companies are their first priority, not American citizens.

"Well, that’s the claim in many cases of the proponents, but our fear is that if you actually get in there looking at the legislation that it’s set up in a way that employers would increasingly opt to letting their employees move over to the public, to the public option. And because it is cheaper, it’s designed to save money, the government-run program has some very clear advantages."

Wiat for it ... wait for it ... there . It only took 23 hours 50 minutes for her to realize thatthat was a good thing.

I'm retired (age 64), have NO health issues WHATSOEVER and I am forced to pay $465 a month for HMO health coverage because I have no other options. I can't WAIT until next year when I turn 65 and am eligible for Medicare/Medicade. How bad is THAT!

You could be hit by a car or suffer a heart attack tomorrow. Then you will be glad you have the health insurance.

"30 to 40 percent cheaper", is this true?

health costs for a family of four is about $15,609 per year. thirty to forty percent savings is between 4,600 and 6,200 dollars a year.

i figured the saving would be great, but not staggering.

Minnesota used to be a terrific place to live. It had relatively high taxes, but the residents didn't mind too much because they had great parks, good roads, efficient and quick snow removal, in short , a high quality of life from paying a little extra. Then the Bachmann types started building their Mcmansions and were surprised to find that their expensive homes carried an expensive tax bill. Reasoning that because they were rich, the laws shouldn't apply to them, they began a tax revolt. Result, a lot fewer services from MN government and a lower quality of life. MB comes from a rich district. Hope those new census results boot her out of office.
