First one is the best. Altho you should go away and let it load and then move it fast forward.

Remarkable cloud formations off that island's coast.

Was anyone out there at the solar eclipse in 1980ish? I was at the stonehenge replica that is up the Columbia River off hwy 14. There were druids, hippees etc. Quite the party. Up all night with the eclipse in the morning casting strange and interesting shadows over the gorge. One of the most beautiful things I ever saw! If you were there, let me know where you are now. I'm in NM and not really living the hippee lifestyle anymore, sigh!

On March 7, 1970, my area of the US witnessed a total solar eclipse; it was spooky and fascinating all at once. I could see how cultures unaware of the workings of astronomy would be frightened!

There are many people within cultures in this day and age who are still frightened and superstitious.

I saw an annular eclipse once from a spot near home that happened to be in totality. The moon was at it's farthest point from Earth, apparently smaller than usual, and sunlight poured through the valleys of the moon creating a ring of diamonds known as Bailey's Beads. As The Meek noted, it was the dictionary definition of awesome!

I have no need for burning bushes, or Bush's Voice of God telling him to go to war. I can't imagine a deity that would have need to say a single thing more than was communicated to me that day.

The odds that the moon "just happened' to be the perfect size, orbiting the earth at such a distance and in such a manner as to make the variety of eclipse displays we see and learn so much from, are so astronomical (!) as to make a believer out of the most hardened realist. My perception of God set things up in the beginning, as far more than 6,000 years ago as 6,000 years is compared to the space between heartbeats. He told the whole story then; we are just getting around to another page.

I'm so glad there are so many more people with high-quality video cameras these days.

Is that a solar flare that is visible in the first video at around 5:02? Wow.

I would say so. It is visible for the whole minute, until they move the camera. And there seem to be others.

That is utterly remarkable.

They bring it back at 6:31 as well, until the Sun reemerges.

I don't think a total solar eclipse will be visible in N. America until Aug 21, 2017.

I saw one. I thought, "Oh ho hum, the sun gets covered big deal, but I'll check it out.". So I went to a random spot that turned out to be a perfect spot to view it from.

IT WAS AWESOME! like in the dictionary definition of awesome.

Sometimes you get lucky.

In roughly 5 billion years, the sun and earth will be history. Enjoy it all now whilst you can.

Nature remains superior -- eclipsing all else (pun intended) because it is inclusive of all else...capable of creating or destroying all at seeming whim...and we bog down in petty grievances and conflicts concerning rabid desire for petty positions of power and influence. Are you kidding? As George Carlin implied, the world could shake us off like so many fleas, at any given time.

Beauty, powerful beyond definition, immense, timeless, both creative and destructive, these are attributes that immediately come to mind. I could feel the energy just looking at the video.

Thanks for this story and the videos.
