Top 8 biking trips in the U.S.

The Tour de France just finished its 16th stage and that's inspired us to take out our bikes and explore. To add to that, Lance Armstrong declared that he's going to race in the Tour de France in 2010. Honestly, we can't think of a bigger inspiration than that. To get you started we've created a list of the top eight biking trips across the United States. So pull down that helmet from the closet and enjoy the summer.

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming: The Grand Teton National Park is full of spectacular mountains that rise high above Wyoming. You can go through 44-miles in Teton Park and access Jenny Lake, Signal Mountain, etc. Or you can do the famed Black Canyon Creek trail which takes you through Route 22, Teton Pass and a steep ride towards Black Canyon Creek. For the brave amongst you, do the trip from Dubois and climb over the Togowotee Pass and descent into Teton. The ride is definitely worth all the pain.

And while we're on bikes, the Boston Police Dept. just started using Twitter and Facebook to find bike thieves. Push your local police station to do the same!

I used to live right next to #3 as well, in Bend OR and I highly recommend the Deschutes River Trail. Awesome biking, hiking, rafting, everything. I don't know if you guys have trouble with the insects as I do when out in beautiful Mother Nature, but I found a natural, non toxic protectent here if you're interested:

I live right on the #3 pick.. The Deschutes River Trail. It is certainly one of the best. There is another trail however, that is also in Central Oregon that is worthy of mention. It is the McKenzie River Trail. Look it up!

The Grand Teton looks pretty nice! The Deschutes River Trail is beautiful as well.

I love bike riding but dont expect me to dress like I'm in the tour de france and since I dont go at racing speeds, noooooooo helmet!

I'd like to nominate the bike ride from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. along the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal path. This 335-mile route follows a mostly level trail. We just completed it in six days. It's the "everyman" trail. You don't have to be a pro cyclist to do it.
And beautiful too.

I think National Geographic called it a true classic.

This is great. I didn't know about it. From the quick Google I just did this appears to be 100% for cyclists & hikers/walkers.

Absolutely. 335 miles, no more than 1.2% grade (that's almost level), spectacular scenery of shaded woodlands and whitewater rivers, lovely B&B's, plenty great side trips including Fallingwater, if you like do 14 miles by steam railroad, connects two cities - Pittsburgh and Washington DC, and as Oliver said, "You don't have to be a pro cyclist", it's easy to do with a family.

It's number one on my list.

The Deschutes River Trail is a "Beginner" level trail.

In Maine, on Mount Desert Island, "Acadia National Park" has 40-some miles of coastal scenic roads, which bikers have to share with traffic, but there are trails that are specific only to bikers too.

I go to Grand Teton every year. I've twice climbed a mountain about a mile away from that tallest peak in the middle (Grand Teton).
